How'd it go today?

Staked out a bridge on a small job. The plans sucked. I had the bare minimum data to to compute what was needed, jumping through lots of hoops, and no way to check the comps. Stake it out and see if it looks about right. There can be a big gap between "about right" and "right". Hopefully I'm closer to the "right" side.

Saw this. It was recently cut. Foreman said the guy spent 7 hours on it...

Got home, shortened grass, and I'm now waiting on a package. My trees have taken a beating this year. Looks like I lost a couple more hemlock branches; probably from the drought and it's poor health. Also, a couple lower branches on one of my dawn redwoods died. I'm hoping it's just cause it's in a shady spot, and it's a natural culling, but the bugs in the pine have me spooked.

We're taking a break in the shop, and we can hear the timbers checking. At first, I thought it was a big mouse chewing on something, but then we saw cracks actually opening up in front of us. I've never seen, or heard, this before.View attachment 141127
My firewood in the house makes noises all summer. I was wondering if you kiln dry your timber?

It's not a problem. We've just never experienced it before. We work all green timbers. You stogie need a radio frequency kiln to even try to dry a timber.

Spent the morning yesterday making calls and tidying up what I can for some of the bills. What terms I can get on tempory leave. Some will work with you, some wont. One told me yesterday that it was so nice and curtious that I was being proactive, however; I have to be in complete default to have them work with me. Kinda dumb IMO. They could still be getting a payment and making money with out destroying my credit rating and compiling penalties on me making it harder to pay off.
Got out with Rob for a bit and sold some work for him to do and future work for me. Now he pulled the little chipper out and is servicing it for work.
Then figured out the flat bed issue. Damn distributor rotor. Grrrr. Oh wel. It runs again.. still have some tidy up on that project. Found a couple oil leaks at the valve covers that need delt with. A few heat cycles, need to seat them again.
Still need to get under it and do the tranny filter and pan gasket. Neck has to be a bit better to play that. I'll just keep it topped off till then. It's not like we are going to use it much right now. The vehicle insurance is still goofy and we have had to drop everything to liability. Makes my teeth grind. One damn deer hit and I could lose something, or a migrant weed grower with no insurance. I kept comprehensive so at least a deer hit is covered.
Levi's with fulll coverage went up 300%. So.... it all starts over in Nov. We'll nail it down better then and see what we can pull off. Puts the one ton as a back up anyway.
Wore myself out yesterday so at least I slept longer.
