How'd it go today?

No-bivy,
That’s crazy! The Propofol alone would zonk most of us. Was he a heavy boy? Reminds me of some crazy agitated angel dusters. Codes that don’t end well are no fun. Had more than I care to remember while covering top three floors of the hospital for codes.

I got my pad poured (5000 psi), ready for the flammables cabinet. Found a ground rod, copper clamps and #6 copper to ground it and some stainless bolts to run into the fittings in the base for feet. Tarped for the intermittent rain we’ve been experiencing.

kinda big(230)....I think dude was a MTF'r and could party. Ketamine worked. MTF= metabolize to freedom

why the cabinet?

Better than full sun. Slow cure is better than quick dry, but you don’t want to ‘water’ it when it’s not set up, as that lessens the surface strength and can lead to flaking as if you overworked it. Concrete is an interesting reaction. It starts fast but slows down, only reaching its full strength at about 47 years, then it starts weakening over the next 200 years. Only exception to that ( other than acid rain) is the concretions the Romans made, using volcanic ash. If I recall correctly I t’s never been equaled.

I don't know much about concrete. With bridges, they get covered with burlap after the pour, and get soaker hoses put on them for some amount of time. Might be four days. I'm not exactly sure.

The slower it cures the harder it gets. Back when I poured foundations we worked year around. In winter they'd add chloride to keep it from freezing before it set...only problem is the chloride sped up the curing process and softened the 'crete, so had to be careful on how much was used.

On bridges, they'll use insulated blankets when it gets cold. If it's very cold, I've seen tents used with propane heaters inside to keep the concrete warm. I had to get inside one of them once. Can't remember why now, but it sucked. Talk about hot. Felt good for the first few seconds, but after that was hot, miserable, and hard to breathe.

Taking a few days off. Myself and in law family rented a cabin in the Dells. Just got done with 9 holes now at tbe bar drinking a brandy old fashion sweet. It's a Wisco thing you wouldn't understand.

Oh no Rajan, I believe quite a few here have no trouble understanding it... ;)

yep, comes heated from the plant. The advantage with a bridge, union job, gov't, etc. is they don't have to strip the forms the next morning to set up a new wall elsewhere. We used to average a residential basement + the next days footing (footers) per day with Four guys.

At the tail end of multi-day job for a contractor working on a home purchase. Old house in a small yard that an older couple let go (now in a nursing home). Big ~85ft, 40" DBH Silver Maple leaning toward house and neighbor's yard represent the big piece of the work See pics in Work Pics thread for images. Still wrapping up stick removal and stump grind on day 4 tomorrow (old man here takes his time, and has to instruct summer groundies on how to do things too many times).

Took a day trip to Ærø, one of the countless small Islands that dot the seas around Denmark.
A nice 2½ hour ferry trip through southern Fynen sea and another light house to add to the mail order bride's list.
Had a nice meal at a restaurant before taking the ferry home late in the evening.

little sleep last night: very warm & sticky. Worked a short day @ the range, did buddy Charlies' chores at the farm, brought birthday presents over to my Sister, now waiting to hear if I have to go get her dinner I'm paying for...

Sleeping when it's hot sucks, and sometimes even a fan doesn't work.

Felt pretty meh today. I guess that answers the question of whether it was the shot or the brushcutting. Got a bit of a headache, and I never get headaches. Ass is burning too, but that might be the quarter bottle of xxx hot sauce I ate today. Still haven't been able to ping the chip. Maybe proxmark3 will help...

Got well into my project on the 4X4. Had some steering issues going on so I was digging into that and found a bad U Joint in the front axle.
So hey, If I am going in, I am going to really go in. Had some new suspension bushings for the front independents sitting on the shelf, got some tie rod ends, upper and lower ball joints, inner shaft seals, leaf spring bushings; get er done mode. Good experience for Levi. He got to watch me screw up one universal pressing it in. He helped me line up and press out old bushings and press in new. Lined up the suspension with his help to get the bolts back through the frame. Taking some time though. A lot of clean up prep before new parts go it. Wire brushing, emory cloth, dremel work. I think it's a good education for him. We'll dig into his 87 Ford here pretty soon. Got that 16th birthday coming up and all that. Good father son time anyway.

Yeah, its fun. Teach them anything you can when they show interest. Had to give him a little what for today. He Re adjusted my regulators on my oxy/acet setup. I had them turned off and no pressure on the diaphram as they sit a while between uses. I told him it was a good thing he fiddled with mine instead of a pro welder. Get his ass kicked
My kids usually start on a tire change. Seth was pretty big for his age so I have pictures of him running the roto hammer at maybe almost 3 when i was digging the house foundation.
Got to get Levi welding too.

You mad at only having 13mi paved road? Sounds good to me. We don't have many dirt roads anymore, and I usually take them when I get a chance. At the top of the county, there's a road with a ford. Pretty unique around here. Haven't been in awhile. I should go up just to drive through it :^D

That sounds right! Never know though, some people are weird :^D

Yea, dirt roads are a little rough and slow, and sometimes you have to pull over for a truck, but it beats this...

Near me, but not today. It could be though. Day's still young...
