How'd it go today?

Geezers in the Treezers comp spent the day hamming it up and did TCIA Aerial rescue cert. Still up and competing at 7:00 life is good!

All things heavenly rarify to air. Trees produce that heavenly air. Breathe air and take care!

Made some progress on my evaluation project for the VA hospital. Shit ton, maybe a metric shit ton of trees to look at.

Large site impacts have degraded the trees. I'm finding decent amount of Phellinus pini (red ring rot heart rot) and some more Phaeolus schweintzii (old tree root disease). The 4'- 5' doug-fir that blew over had P. schweinitzii, I believe.

Near a lake, so lots of wind, and many tops in a lot of trees. Histories of blow out tops, regrowth, big long pendulant limbs, reiterations. Looking at many 40"+ firs. Some nice Geary/ Oregon White Oaks. Interesting. Been developed over the last 100 years.

I don't think that my report will fall on deaf ears. Good volunteer labor force to help with mulching, instead of total stripping of nutrients and lawn.

Feels like this is going to be an opportunity to make a difference in a substantial little chunk of urban forest. The overall site, including the golf course is 344 acres +/-. Lots of parking included.

I guess I looked at 200-300 trees so far, in reasonable depth for a VTA.

These pictures turned into a jumbled mess. I'm just leaving it for now, and going to light a fire and catch a fire.

On it, not to the top, part way to Camp Muir ( I think), the typical bivy spot around 10,000' for climbers to go for 14,000 summit.

A bit of snow shoeing and skiing.

Decided I needed to rest up today. Went to the dmv and renewed tags for the dump trailer and decided to stop at the shop and give the elevator a bath. The mechanic caught me as I was putting things away and put me to work. Nothing hard, just stuff that an extra set of hands was nice on. Came home and decided to clean out my Tahoe. It's amazing how many cloths and small tools can fit in there. I found my voltmeter and decided to check the battery on the dump trailer. It was fine but u found a bunch of loose wires. Proceeded to tighten them up and arced the solenoid, which startled me and I broke it. So I proceeded to take it off so I could replace it. PITA. had to unbolt the whole unit to get it off. And being a bit upset about it I neglected to check the time before I headed to the parts store. Of course they were closed. Oh what a relaxing day. Nothing but fun. Haha

Like Rosanna Rosanna Danna said, "It's always something"

Exactly.
Good news came in a moment ago. I'm demoing a tracked chipper( some big ass bandit) with a grapple on it later in the week. Just a parking lot demo, but I think it's gonna be cool.

Just about got the old Brown Ford going again.

Ball joints, new carrier in the front diff, ring and pinion, u joints, rotors, drag link, tie rod ends, and misc stuff.

Took the add a leaf out so the old thing sits a little lower, but there is actually flex in the front end now.

Did you know that 7/16 center bolts are scarce as hens teeth? The only ones I found were 8! inches long and the shank was unthreaded about 2.5 inches from the head. Cut some new threads but the shank was a smaller diameter. They held, but barely.

I am kinda fond of the old girl. 93 F250, 4x4 auto, 460 with 59,000 miles. Grandpa bought it brand new.

I hear you Justin, I keep thinking I should go back to Vermont and rebuild my 92 450 it sure has better capacity than my current 350.

I agree Butch the other case I have may do it but it fish eyes the whole view. It does get sound better though.

I finally got the winch mounted to the chipper! Tested it out today ripping out a 8 inch tree from the frozen ground. It had no problems. Happy day!! image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

I'd like to see pictures from different angles when you have the time. I assume the winch runs off the power generated by the chipper?

I have wondered about mounting a winch on our BC935 but have not gotten past wondering...no serious contemplation yet.

Good job.

Nearly got the 084 finished. Sourcing parts in the UK has been a real issue as they are obsolete & not many were sold I have discovered. I would like a new side case & a full wrap, but the price for the latter alone is over $200 imported.
Got a nice shines new bar for it & it puts a real smile on my face when I run it up.
