Stig, why is the logging season only in the colder part of the year? Here the logs fetch a better price generally, due to the lesser water content. Is that why?
Obviously you have the experience to know the ins and outs, but it doesn't seem that problematical to toss a limb under to keep things mostly off the ground, before whacking the limbs. Perhaps the mills don't like the extra chance that logs will pick up dirt either? Working in warmer weather just seems like it has big comfort advantages. I must be soft.

At least we were able to just pile it off to the side. HO has taken to like burning little piles instead of chipping
All that little epicormic growth is a bit harsh to feed into the mulching hopper on our chipper.
