How'd it go today?

I've put the 3/4 wrap on the 460 with a 20" bar. It comes in handy ever so often. (I've had this saw for a while, I was repairing it for a guy, then he decided to sell it yesterday, so I've been trying out the 3/4 wrap all along).

After using it I'm not sure I'd run out and buy one though, for the price they cost.

I figured I'd leave the wrap on the 460 with the 20", and use the new 460 with a 25". I am told the west coast version has a bigger oiler, so I'll keep that bigger bar on it for stump cuts, etc. Won't have to tug around the 660 with the 36" all the time.

Some of the Stihl bars have a tiny oil hole. You can increase the flow by enlarging it. A guy I did that for says he has better results now.

Whoa, I've never see dogs like that.

What chipper do you have, Stephen?

Still have my "cute little chipper", a 24 HP Bear Cat Butch. Second engine and still going.. I doubt I'll ever part with it. It just can be put into such small places. We've put it down side walks and around houses with a dolly. I will eventually own a bigger auto feeder though. Just one thing at a time :)

I installed the oversize oiler on my 660 and one of my 460s. What a world of difference in bar life that has made.

I am quite fond of the wrap handle on my 361.

Just rescued a cat, almost full moon made it pretty easy to see.

Crikey! A night climb? Do go on!

Yeah. I had to have some dinner first. And the client was freaking about the cat being up there for over a week now. I got my line In the tree as the light was fading away. Need to put my headlamp back in the truck!!

Yo, I didn't mean any harm, brother. I've two felines, myself.

Good on you!

I wouldnt buy the same dogs again, I like them bigger than stock, but not as big as what I have. Maybe on a larger saw.

Just a thought, Nick ... I bought some LARGE dogs for one of my saws a few years back. But, they were too big. Took 'em off - clamped them together - ground them down to what I wanted - 15-20 minutes - done.
Worked for me -- might work for you ... :)

Its been nice with employee Erik acting as manager. I have been turning things over to him, and collecting the checks. I eval'ed and bid to remove a tree 1.5 miles from me at an existing customer's house who has laminated root rot in a bunch of big trees right near a small primary line. Otherwise, he's been pretty self-sufficient for the past two weeks since Dahlia's birth.

Had a past employee, Harvey, helping on occasion. They've worked together some. A little clashing, but Harvey just tries to understand that someone has to make the ultimate decisions, and at the same time, Erik is pretty reasonable and open to suggestions, I think.

Harvey's done some spur climbing, but not a ton. I'm going to give him a lesson tomorrow on spurless climbing, and climbing safety, hopefully, Amy and Dahlia willing.

Erik and Harvey will have a half dozen small-medium firs to thin for light on Friday. Ladder access to the canopies, so relatively easy, and all handsaw work.

I have a climber that I used to work with who wants to work on weekends, as he runs a loader and such at a bark mulch processing operation during the week. Gotta be f'ing dull. TJ worked on spurs on fir removals a lot when I worked with him 5 years ago when I first worked in WA for another guy for a few months. He's done a bit of pruning work, but mostly removals. He can spurless climb, but is probably old school, still. He went to Afganistan in the Marines for a year or two during the last couple. I think he'll do just fine on fir removals and fir pruning. Don't know about any broadleaf trees, though.

Did a storm damaged pine clean up over a main road today and a quick dead wood on this POS CA black oak, Quercus kelloggii. Mostly hollow in places, almost all tops dead, pecker pole. Some of what we left was for the peckers to stay where they were in their little holes and not start in the house
First time visit to this account. Sold a pollard in November along dead wooding the pondo behind the black oak that grows up through the deck over the hot tub. That one will be a removal one day

Screwed up on a bid and had to take it like a man today. I'll make it up through the rest of the week. When I realize part way into a job that my number was off, it sours my mood. I started the day exhausted and tired so I think that played into it.

Lol. I know he exact misery you describe. I hate working for peanuts.

I'm busier than hell still right now, I'm almost thinking about hiring another person but am kind of scared of the leap. I don't want to jinx myself but I seem to be taking over a bit in this area for actual treework. My competition just isn't competitive.
