How'd it go today?

Well the 650 decided I didn’t put enough money into it yet. Damn key switch (fairly new) decided to stick in the start position and with my earmuffs on did not hear it. After about twenty minutes there was smoke and the starter went kaput. I happen to have a new switch and the starter should be here tomorrow. This was after work at home trying to get some hours in so I could re-torque bolts this weekend. The dang starter was still hot two hours later. Glad it didn’t catch fire. Hoping the flywheel is ok. Couldn’t see well enough in the dark to check.

Similar happened to me with my Avant last year. 25hp Kubota engine, new starter was over $600!!! Saved the old one to have rebuilt locally for a spare.

Kubota parts have a rep for being high. John Deere too.
atleast you don't have to call the dealer to get your new parts programed with kubota!

buddy of mine has a 3033E, ripped the throttle position sensor off with a stick, bought a new one and installed it, then found out he had to drag it onto a trailer and take it to the dealer so they could program the new sensor, cost him a bunch of money and time that he should have never had to pay

I would like to mention, on my Kubota when I ripped the quick coupler off the end of the boom which took a lot of parts with it, I called the dealer to let them know that I was headed their way and to get a rental fueled up for me

7 days later I had my machine back, the only thing I had to pay for was the grapple bucket for the rental skidsteer, they warrantied the repair and got it done as fast as they could, never once heard of Deere doing that, no way it hasn't happened, I just haven't heard of it myself, which is odd because most of my family is from Moline and worked at Deere in a past life

Programming parts is going to become more and more common, unfortunately. Working on our own equipment will be difficult for a lot of repairs. They took the dipsticks out of automatic trannys, now working on doing it to engines. They come up with new dumb ideas daily.

part of why I'm considering picking up another 80's-90's medium duty to build another chip truck out of, cheap, easy to work on, and anyone has parts, brand doesn't matter on these older MDT's

aside from the dodge, all my stuff will run off a single wire if I need it to, parts are available most anywhere (besides the Giant, might have to make those parts myself if the dealer can't get them, no aftermarket parts for them)

now, I don't need dipsticks in any of my stuff, I just make sure its got a puddle underneath it before I start it, can't leak if theres no oil :)

There is a section of the sawmill driveway that was beyond trying to grade it with the tractor, so I dug down 2' with the backhoe, completely digging out all bumps, dips, and holes. I then put the box blade on made it into a super highway. I then cleaned out the ditch, and put a couple of big rocks on the edge to keep the grain truck out of the Bermuda triangle of mud. It would take more than one Big Rig Wrecker to get that 50 ton truck out of there. This is my small victory for the day.
