How'd it go today?

Relaxing day yesterday. PT and running the boys around w/ a couple of nice naps mixed in.

Took a "big boy" shower this morning w/o my shower chair. That topped off a whole week of no crutches to walk. The new knee is definitley the "good" knee now.:)

You'd do it over again at this point, Mike? Getting the other knee tuned up?

Dropped the trailer off for them to put the rakings in, did a crown raising that wasn't to my liking, and did a normal limb removal for roof clearance.

The job I didn't like, I talked him out of it back in 08. He called this week asking for a bid/saying he wanted it done. I gave him a bid over the phone and skipped the whole debate. He was tickled when I was done, that's the majority of what matters to me, after the money of course. :)

Absolutely Carl. My left knee feels so much better. The only pain I have in it is just muscle type soreness from PT. I have heard some horror stories about knee replacements but I am satisfied with my experience. Makes me wonder if I was just used to a lot of pain or other people are whiny pussies. I can't wait to get the right one done, but will have to put it off until June or July so that I can plow snow this winter and coach lacrosse in the spring.

Lots of running around today, bid some jobs, grocery shopping, wished neighbors happy 56th anniversary, rebuilt a cabinet, and cut down, re-shaped, and stained the cabinet doors for a customer so their new, taller refrigerator would fit underneath; re-stocked my supply of 7018 and 6011 (sale price), parents just got back from summer in Michigan, so I am off to see them and granddaughter.

Glad to hear it's workin out well, Mike. I generally don't listen to people talking about pain, as it's so qualitative and most people are giant pansies. Spicy food is the same way.

I put 20-30lbs of rod in the shop's attic a month or so ago, Pigwot, next to the stick welder I haven't used since I got the MIG.

I hear ya Carl. The thing I hated the most was when they asked me to rate my pain on a scale of 1-10. HTF do you do that unless you are postive that you have experienced 10?:?

I just made shit up and kept it relative.

 It irritates me when people say "On a scale from 1-10" and the people respond with a number off the scale. It used to be funny, now it's just old.

By far the worst pain I've experianced was the night after getting the strictures in my esophagus stretched/biopsied last year.

Finished a 3 day job ahead of schedule. Still spread it over 3 days.. Just shorter days. Only worked a 1/2 day today. I was going to push the job parameters a tad further just as a bonus to the HOs. Slid down some grass on a slope and pulled my ankle a bit. Damn thing never been right since I really buggered it up some years back.. Does not take much to sprain it. So rather safe than sorry, I called it. Nice to be home early and the kids are happy about it too. Still made decent money. :)

My most intense pain was debreding an infected burn. I thought I was gonna pass out! The longest lasting pain was the first thirty days of my foot smushing. Not fun at all.

Mike, Carl,
Pain is a relative-scale thing. One person's 2 is another person's 8 or more.
As a nurse, when I assess pain I always ask, "Would you please rate the pain you
are experiencing right now on a scale of 0 to 10; 0 being no pain at all and 10 being
the worst pain you could ever imagine".
When put that way almost every patient could express a number.
The other thing to remember as a nurse is: 'our job is not to judge someone's self-assessment of pain,
but to accept it and treat it'.

Just got home after doing estimates and then buying a jon boat with 2 seats and a 50lbs thrust troller motor and battery for $360. Woody really enjoys the idea of fishing and I need time off so I figured it might work out since we have a reservoir 5 mins from the house.....

W/W a truck this morning.

Started a little project for my mom, digging out this area to her new arbor my brother finally put up, and installing these old school Belgium block. I smelt skunk all of a sudden and my chihuahua comes running out from under the deck, sprayed in the face. Yuk. Cleaned her up, and kept on ticking. Got all the block in, need more soil to fill in between, then growing grass for a farmy/old/forgotten look.

I'm tired, waiting for my hunny to get out of work and order some pizza.

Butch,
I'll complete profile. I've done a lot of things. While in Nursing School I sometimes just made it into lectures, still covered with sawdust, hot and sweaty and at times with my gear duffel when I'd been climbing for another company and had been dropped off. Got to the point that certain students would not sit near my 'usual' seat in the lecture hall.

I have an old sawyer friend that used to run the sawmill I learned on. He had both knees done. He used to be really bow-legged, maybe from being a lineman for the power company for 40+ years. The took a little angle off of each knee and now he stands perfectly straight.

I had the same pain scale issue when I broke my shoulder years ago. I asked the nurse how I was supposed to know what a 10 was if I wasn't sure I'd ever experienced it.

More than likely the bowleggedness is from the body trying to compensate for the damage already done (ie avoid the painful spots) Ask Erik how bowlegged i got over the last 5 years. The guys I played lacrosse with said I ran like a bow-legged penguin.:D

Carl why doesn't the hospital have aides? and what does that have to do with you becoimg a nurse? There were some mighty scary aides when I was in the hospital. Half of them were fat and the other half were crazy. I'm sure there is venn diagram showing the overlap. Point being, I wouldn't become a nurse to pick up hot chicks if that is your warped, devious plan.

I don't know why, I just know they don't. How does that effect me becoming a nurse? I don't want to wipe someon's back side after they chit the sheets.

I'd do it because it pays decently, is fairly stable, comes with full benifits, but more importantly without overtime you only work 7 out of 14 days. (4/3 3/4) which would let me still do the tree thing.

My friend/long time worker met his live in flame of 2 years at the hospital. Cutie for sure, they both work ICU, but on seperate shifts.

You could met a nice lady doctor that way too, Carl. I'm surprised Mike hasn't mentioned it.

I met mine the old fashioned way, before she went to medical school. I still have the bills to prove it.:D I'm not complaining though.

Just curious Carl. I thought it might be a scheme of yours to get some tail.;)

Aides are really common up here to keep costs down. Two aides to one RN/LPN.
