How'd it go today?

Sorry to hear about your mom RD.. Hope she gets better.

Got to practice my coos bay cut yesterday on some leaners. I forgot to bring the stump cut home to take a picture of my ugly cut  Tree went where I wanted though. :) Tried to show the cut to my sub Joe.. He did not see what the big deal was  And then proceeded to get his saw stuck in a small leaner that was 1/2 rotten trying to cut an open face. I would have faced that particular one the same way myself, but he just does not have the feel for it.
So I rescheduled a bunch of stuff last night and taking Seth to soccer today.
Katy informed me after his practice last night.. (only 3 kids showed) that they are not going to be using goalies this year so the kids won't feel so pressured to perform on the field this year:?
WTF is the point?? These new age sensitive parents need a good spanking.
So Seth's team is going on a field trip to watch some older kids play real soccer to learn more about the game as they won't be playing it.. Kudos to the coach but again WTF?
Sorry venting before my first cup of coffee..

God forbid we introduce the concept of competition and striving to do well. We are creating future generations of lazy losers.

Katy and I were sitting here talking and she was as pissed as I was. We would have preferred to enroll him in another sport had we known. Your absolutely right Mike on the current trend. Go lemmings go..

Yah that's funny. In an increasingly competitive world, lets teach our kids to not be competitive. Sounds like a formula for success.

Never try, never fail. Could be the team motto.

I have no problem simplifying the game, but no goalies? Why not get rid of the goal or the ball altogether? Oh yeah, they call that track.:)

Ther are ways to keep competition without it becoming overly competitive. In addition to coaching HS lacrosse I run a youth lax program. The emphasis of the league we play in is to have fun and learn the game. There are no league standings or championships. By doing this it eliminates the sometimes ridiculous pressure that parents and coaches can place on young atheletes. However the kids still compete, I know they keep score and keep track of their wins and losses. I think self imposed competitiveness is much healthier at the younger ages.

As for t-ball and coach-pitch little league, I think that is more about logistics and less about competition. There exists the potential for some marathon walk-a-thons if the little guys pitched themselves.

Ha soccer .I thnk maybe my son was 6 or 7 when he first played .At that age goals are a rarity but they had goalies, about 3 feet tall .

I coached a U-14 team for two seasons .The last year for spring soccer I would line those little chits up on the 18 yd line and out run them to the other goal line .I beat them all ,old drinker and smoker that I was at 34-35 years .How some ever that last season in the fall I only out ran half of them .

They went on become the very first soccer team that Lima Ohio senior high school ever had ,done good ,I was proud of them .

When ever I hear the word "fair" from a parent, I about want to pop em ..
I get so tired of how some parents ensure fair to their kids. Lighter discipline actions or none.
Life ain't fair and there are a lot of things out there that aren't real nice. Guide your kids through it, teach them competitive skills, responsibility, and real world skills over time. They will do fine. Shelter them completely, make some more sheeple.

I hope the mom is doing better Adrian, bad deal!

Crashed my BMX bike coming off a ramp last night, landed right on my butt and compressed my spin, hurts like a bitch right now! Some day I have to figure out that I'm not 20 any more!

Nothing wrong with thinking you're younger than you are Andy, I do regularly.

Last Saturday, i was in the "pit" moshing with a load of teenagers at a festival. Great, but it hurt the next morning!!

Yeah, the last time I got in a pit was at a Manson concert, it was fun until three of them got tired of me and I got bumrushed! Went down backwards folding three of my fingers backwards. The kids were cool and helped my up and out. No more pits for me!
Hopefully I can get back on the bike by next week, think I'm going to avoid the two foot jump for a while though!

I do that stuff myself every often .Like shinny up a tree then be stiff and sore the next three days .Although here of late I've been getting lot of shovel action on the footer for my house addition and it doesn't seem to bother me too much . I'd say I dug out 3 cubic yards after work last night and so far so good .A shovel by the way is not my favorite tool in the shed .
