How'd it go today?

Reduced to reading while recovering. Inactivity depresses me - I am drawn to darker things…

ARS POETICA
by Baga Dimitrova

Write each of your poems as if it were your last.
In this century, saturated with strontium,
charged with terrorism,
flying with supersonic speed,
death comes with terrifying suddenness.
Send each of your words like a last letter before execution,
a call carved on a prison wall.
You have no right to lie,
no right to play pretty little games.
You simply won't have time to correct your mistakes.
Write each of your poems, tersely, mercilessly,
with blood -as if it were your last.

Old time Japanese general with army invades town, all flee except for a zen master. General screams at him while reaching for sword- You fool, don't you realize you are standing before a man who could run you through without blinking an eye?

The master seemed unmoved and calmly replied 'And do you realize you are standing before a man who can be run through without blinking an eye?

Just made a quick property inspection, and my chestnut I found, replanted, then replanted again after the deer ate it and pulled it out has buds getting ready to pop. That makes me happy. I also found European hornets are going into my eve near the backdoor. That makes me unhappy. Those things scare me. Dunno how this became the cool house to nest in, but I'd like it if they found somewhere else to go.

Busy day of mowing the property we camp at, picking up dinner from a small chicken local chicken place my wife loves, and then back to working on her gardens. I’m almost ready to fill the planters. Just a few more braces and then the fabric to install. They’re getting filled with a wood chip base and then garden soil. I have a supply of leaf mulch and horse manure that I might start composting together in a pile after this project and the next one are done. Here’s what it looked like this morning

Dumb question Rich... I've been looking at your garden as it's been built, and it looks like a double ring, where you can walk between the center and the outside. Is that the case? If so, how do you get there?

I did my taxes this weekend, late of course They keep changing the closing day each year (just a false excuse:D).
I discovered that thanks to a recent Windows update, the archive folder "2022" in my email box was completely empty. The bills I got for my job's purchases on internet just disapeared. Beside that, all the emails I kept in the incoming and sending boxes where trimmed off until just 3 months ago, nothing left before. All the email adress registred are gone too. How convenient is that? They take care for us to not get an over filled email box. :X
" Digitization will make your life easier". Sure, I feel it that way!
I had to check my bank account and try to identify all the lines, then visite the different sites, those I could find at least, to check the historics and pull out the invoices or what is like. That was the easy part.
For the suppliers' and customers' data exchanged by mail ... lost to the sea.
That put me in a pretty bad mood.

The garden doubles as an agility course :rockhard: ;)

I think he will cut out the center piece in the forefront of that photo to make an entrance.

He's still making us look bad however.😔

Yes the center gets cut out for a door way. Keeping it there until I fill the planters and get the fencing up. Once I cut it out I’ll have to build the door to keep the dogs out. The older of the dogs is mad at me already because he wants to roll in that center bed. The younger one, nasty creature that he is, won’t unless something is dead in it. Should have the door installed by Friday😎

Irrigation will be added next year I suppose. This year she’s gonna have to learn about how much more watering the plants will need

Spot just brought a dead young bunny to the back step D^: I hear her meowing and think "Ugh, I wonder what she got this time". I like when it's mice. Bunnies, snakes, birds, and especially squirrels, not so much.

Wife and I took our 3 young children to the Orioles game in downtown Baltimore. They lost 4 to 0 unfortunately. Her mom and sister were there as well. The ladies had a good Mother’s Day.

We couldn’t get back into the parking garage when it was time to leave as the police had entrances blocked due to the fire alarm sounding. The FDept finally cleared it as a false alarm and we headed home.

She's definitely proud of herself. I guess she should be. She's a damned good hunter. I was talking to Mike about the clover I planted, and said how it would draw animals like rabbits to the yard, and Spot would have more rabbits to catch. He said everyone would be happy then. RoFL! :^D

First cruise ship showed up today for the season. It looked like it was from a Star Wars movie. I should have taken a picture. It had a helicopter that would take tourist rides...a first for here as far as I know.

Is it bittersweet when the tourists arrive? How do the locals feel?

Do them flatlanders hardly set foot off the boat? Or do the trails and town get crowded?

Overall it's fine. We don't get the large numbers that the bigger towns get. It's a big part of the economy now and at least the local charter operators are all independently owned and not a part of the big cruise operations.
That's so important! I have friends who ran sail charters that got sold on the cruise ships. The cut the ship took was obscene. But if you didn't advertise with the ship, they wouldn't send passengers your way, and some even would denigrate the independent operators to dissuade passengers from going to them. Shonky.
When we went on our Alaska cruise years ago, we booked a few things while on board, but in the main we went direct to the charter company office in port and got a better deal.

did an oil change on the pickup, bucket and chipper, all in all about 13 gallons of oil
tractor supply dude told me if I came in last week I could have had 5 gallons for $11, WTF
got a new steer tire on the bucket truck, and pruned the lawn, all in all a productive day, time for a show and food

Went on the noisewall job today. That job's getting on my nerves. Aside from the noise and congestion, the inspector's a huge doucenozzle. I don't deal with him directly, but his asshattery causes me more more work, and hearing stories from other guys out there gets me pissed off.

I was talking to the clearing guy today. He had a tree that was uprooted and hung up in a tree that was getting removed. He cut it off near the base like anyone with a gram of sense would do, but that was outside the LOD, and the inspector gave him a bunch of shit about it, taking pictures of the stump and everything. I've got a bunch of stupid stories like that. They're drilling lots of wide and deep holes out there. That inspector needs to find himself in one, nice and covered with concrete. Cozy!
