How'd it go today?

Deer are browsers ,unike an elk that for example is more of a grazer type ruminent .They nibble a little bit of this and a little bit of that .Whatever suits their fancy at the time .

Actually no matter if they are on the western slopes in the rocky mountains or the flat lands of northern Ohio their patterns are much the same .They prefer thickets of a such rather than grass lands or the woods .Fact is they only go in the tall trees to escape the heat of summer or the cold of winter .Then most generally only the outsides of same .Their key to defense is being fleet of foot or rather hoof as be the case .

We felled and fed 40 doug-fir under 18" to the chipper for a landslide caused road realignment project. LOVE the chipper winch and skidder.

Tired now, but am going to try to motivate to use the hotel gym. Work the opposing groups.

Two weeks out of town for work, then work-sponsored PNWISA annual training conference in Idaho.

Made it back from TN. Class was boring at parts, but I learned a lot. Definitely interested in learning more about soil and its interactions with trees.

Hoping to get a rain day tomorrow to get off work. If not, I'll get a chance to break my new boots in.

You know getting back to my day today,if I were to do tree work and be younger I'd much prefer to be a faller, feller whatever .For some unknown reason I like to trip trees in the woods .The challange is not putting the tree on the ground but rather doing it in a way as not to destroy all the other trees .Odd perhaps but I get a kick out of it .

Today was good, like the last 4, off camping. One question for any seasoned travellers;
How come even though the distance for this trip was under 150 Km with one country border crossing, did it take us 7 hours to get home?

Answer : Pack up the trailer 1 hour+, drive 45 minutes, wait more than an hour for wife to go shopping at Costco then Safeway, drive half hour then stop for fast food lunch and 4th potty trip for junior, minor wait at border, minor interrogation by Canadian border official, half hour drive to trailer storage site, half hour to unload groceries to bags and coolers then truck, 45+ minute drive home then 3 trips of about 300 yards from truck to front door packing coolers, back packs etc. yeesh! Cant wait for next time and Bub was already crying after 10 minutes from departure that he didnt want to go home and wanted to stay camping. That tells me he had a hoot. :D

edit: forgot about the 40 minute wait at the sani dump to empty the grey and black water tanks, the ONE vehicle in front of us obviously are NOT in to NASCAR or any other competitive racing, they have no idea about urgency during a pit stop.

LOL! he, I was the one that ate the jalapeno poppers el SOTC last night, they turned out great! 3 over the little bbq that wasnt hot enough and three over the fire in the pit on a grill, they were mucho better! Next time we get together, I suggest a bake off. ;-)

Little kids get a big kick out of stuff like camping .Enjoy it because from one who knows they won't stay little and innocent forever .

A blast was had. Our residence for the last few and his bunk area. A few more pics in another thread, shortly. :)

sure! Maybe we can work something around the PNW chapter annual training conference / ITCC next summer. Portland should be sorta easy to get to for a bunch of west coasters.

Rob actually pulled off cinnamon rolls at our camp this summer. Had to use the Coleman stove though. :/: I doubt I could drag his arse out with me to a GTG though unless he thought he could help with rigging something and learning from someone :/: And even then..

Looks like a nice spot to camp Paul

It wasnt bad Stephen but it was recently renovated. Ground churned up etc, pads not at all level. I tell ya what though, if you want to go camping and NOT have crowds, go to a state park on a weekday when school is in season. :D it went from about 90% occupation saturday night to maybe 20 % sunday night to about 6 occupied sites of about 70 on monday night, NICE and quiet.

I thought about that JUST after I posted :) Do we have any Portland members? We may be doing a family trek at the same time of year next summer, might try to tie the ITCC etc into it. We have one friend and his family trying to plan something with us.

Puttered in the shop working on some saws to get ready for a three day crane job at a private residence next door to the city office. Friday is a holiday, so we can use the office parking lot for the cranes...two to get the work done by Sunday. They are charging to use the parking lot. :X

To get into the right spiritual frame of mind, I had to spend the rest of the day at a nearby inn hot spring. Typhoon #15 is upon us, so I figured it would be pretty quiet there, and after the one guy left after I went in, I had the place to myself. In and out of the pool, catching a few winks lying naked on the hot tile floor, it is a good way to find peace with the world.

Started with trees inc yesterday for my line clearence apprenticship. Tommorow I go to take my cert arborist exam.

Things like the plumbing on camper trailers can be a pain in the butt .All that rattling around going down the road causes stuff to come disconnected .To add salt to the wound more times than not it's in a space that a pizz ant would have trouble getting into let alone a person .
