Tree felling vids

To me seeing that I think rank amateurs. Some might see it as skill and some might see it as luck. But why take the chance, here again I get paid to not damage shit. That’s why I get paid what I do, to not take stupid chances for a money shot. Would I have flopped that tree? Maybe. But I have my doubts.

I don’t know enough about roping and rigging to say for sure but I think they’re better at that than falling. And sharpening. 😬 I’ve thought about asking them if they wanna work together sometime or something. Their culture is, “close enough is good enough”, and, “if it worked it worked”.

…if it didn’t, 💩 happens mysteriously…

FGTW says it will pull to the high side...plus limb weight and brittle euc...

I watched it a couple more times and that might be the one that had the dutchman. It starts to go the right way and then kicks off left.

Whole lotta nope! Pull your pants up and your shirt down. If you ain't got sense enough to dress yourself properly, you don't belong on any job site with me. Dude looks like a bum. Secondly, use the damn ear pro flipped up on the back of the helmet, no I'll not be convinced that he has plugs in, he can't even cover his undershirt, or hold a saw half level.

No David, you don't want to work with them. You can't tell them nothing. You can tell that by the fact that they're proudly posting hackery online. It's not that they don't know better, they legitimately think they're good. You don't want to be on the job when they screw up, and they will, don't let it tarnish your reputation.

Some of the crap I've seen posted here from Esco, yeesh! If I did that crap, I'd be looking for a whole new line of work. On the other hand, they make me look good by proxy...

Here is a tricky Humboldt mistake I made a couple years ago that I have never seen addressed. Watching BC faller, they say not to chase your undercut, knock it out with your axe. I tend to be low on the far side. If I just knock the face out, I have a gap face on one side and closed on the other. Humboldts tend to be closed faces, especially if trying to keep the stump low. Because of this, they tend to close before the hinge breaks, especially in the western conifers where they are usually used. So, my oops face essentially becomes a mini Dutchman and sizwheel. Especially in this case with a light, tough stringy tree.

In short, the bottom cut of a Humboldt is the shelf the tree jumps off, and if it’s crooked, it can influence the tree’s aim.

I think it’s like many things, the Humboldt is better and faster for production, but takes more skill to achieve correctly.

A couple tricks I have seen that take less effort and more skill is Gordy from west coast saw using the kickback area of the tip to walk the bar up into the undercut vs. having to lever it, and Mitch Zenobi plunging his undercut along the bottom of the gunning cut and then cutting downward and out the tree.
