Our new one is the same way. One has to stand well clear when letting him loose, cause he'll roll immediately.

We finally got some decent weather these last two days. been the coldest spring ever recorded, and lots of precipitation, too.

The almost 40000 trees we've planted love it, though.
Plenty of water and not too hot.
They seem to be coming along fine.

Last year we planted 4000 sitka spruce in a clear cut and lost 3900 ( Or something like it) to Hylobius beetles.
So this year we replanted, waited till we could register gnawed spots on the new trees, and today sprayed each and every one with a synthetic pyrethroid.
That should take care of them.

Thanks. He's really coming along nicely. I've been becoming a more and more sensitive/accurate and balanced rider and man is he responding to it. We've been through a bunch of 'spring fever' with our horses and we don't like to ride in the slowest fashion possible(lots of trotting, loping, and all out galloping ). So there's been a few hiccups and bucks the odd day here and there. But for the most part all three of our horses are quite tame in comparison to others I see. They are all regularly ridden/handled, and not just ridden but exercised and worked. That makes for lots of respect and low heads.

Here's the other side of Nuggy, that scar on his rear flank is where he ripped himself open on the end of a thru bolt holding a gate. My fault, I hadn't cut it short. I swear I coulda stuck my head right inside of him when it happened! I lost track of the stitches, lots. I often think of that wound(I see it everyday) and am amazed at the healing ability of horses. He never took a lame step from it and was good to go again in no time.

He's a pretty marked up horse. He was born way north from here on a giant ranch, out on their range, wasn't found for a year or two and had obviously gotten hung up in some barbed wire. He's got marks all over his rear legs from it. As a bitter irony we've had a bunch of his tack stamped in barb wire patterns. I've had him for almost eight years now.



Hope your new plantings do better with the spraying. Sounds like they should.

Yah. Unfortunately that seems to last for like a month maybe out of the year. Lol.

He bleaches out fast and he goes almost white in the winter. Some people do all sorts of crazy things to try to 'maintain' that palomino look. I can't be all that bothered.

The expense here gets me. It's about 3-5 times the cost vs sipping at home. Also drinking and driving is a big no no. I've got a one drink rule on myself if I'm piloting anything motorized.

It works because you're a highly disciplined individual, Justin. It seems like that for most people, an absolute abstinence from drinking policy if they are going to drive, is what works. Of course the laws here now help to implement that policy, you get arrested practically if you have just smelled the stuff, and besides losing your license, a heavy fine is also imposed on anyone else riding in the vehicle. The cops will clean up if there is a car load full. I think it's like five grand now per individual. It's put a lot of drinking establishments out of business. Needless to say, drinking at home is big.

I had two rows of small cedar stumps to grind in Delhi, and 10 shrubs and cedars in Brantford to grind. A few good reviews on Facebook. Hope it keeps up. I need it, badly. Working on another piece of equipment for the tree work. Trying to source out parts, close by, is a PITA.

Jomo, taxis are big, and the drivers all wear dainty white cotton gloves! There is also a transport service where two people will come to the drinking establishment in their vehicle, one will drive your car home following their vehicle with you in it giving directions. They won't let you ride in your own car for some reason. Some legality issue I believe. The people doing that work are pretty patient, sometimes having to follow directions given by a very intoxicated person. Probably if they assess that the drinking person might pass out before getting them home, they won't take them. I've used that service once or twice. I dunno, it just feels weird getting driven by a stranger in a strange car and getting followed by another stranger driving your own car. It's some kind of Asian thing.

Chinese lady tried to add on about 3 extra hours of work upon arrival today. Was quite a drive to the job, and I had Dave with me at $300. I said I'd have to increase the cost....she refused to accept it. I worked for her before, so wasn't surprised at her tactic. She looked surprised when I said goodbye, and drove off. Thankfully we were able to drop on another job to salvage the day.

The previous day I took out a big fir for a contract climber, who'd scored the job but wanted me to do it. Honestly, treework often feels so easy it's like I'm not even working. Feel like I'm weightless at the moment. I'm definitely ready for some time away...

Why would you want to get away from something that is world renowned for being hard yet feels easy to you, earns you a nice living, and gets you high (weightless) at the moment? Sounds all good to me.

Jay, often I choose just not to drink at all or better yet have someone else drive. Or for the odd bash were we're living it up I've used both taxis and the drive your vehicle home service. The drive your vehicle home for you option is very convenient. Here too it's just not an option to drive drunk. Too costly with fines impoundment and possible jail time.

Saw some duck nests today and some cerlew nests. All with eggs. Glad we don't till much anymore.

Try using grapple truck disposal more. Outsource need the chip truck, chipper, driver, chipper operators, disposal time, and be more machine oriented.

Driving around doing bids today I saw an older guy looked late 80's either had a fall, heart attack or seizure I think. Two cars had pulled over and the people had him in recovery position, busy road steady traffic stream etc. I kept driving but it didn't feel 100% right, just don't think I could have done much else to help that they weren't already doing. Hope hes alright.

Nice Snake, Of course being from Cali, I thought it was a rattler.
I don't mind spiders too much, but snakes are so cold and calculating and just want to eat you.
There are no mammal emotions of nurturing or care, Like "pet me".

Too many people on scene can make it cramped, especially on a roadside with rubber necks trying to kill you.

Last thursday at work, we were setting those boxed trees in the hole... one 2x4 was too long for the hole width...
Quickly thinking, I ran for my handsaw, The carpenter ran for his skilsaw, The digger just stood there and chopped back the edge with his shovel and yawned.

I laughed and thought, when your only tool is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
