How'd it go today?

its taking some getting used to, sure feels a LOT more tippy than a mini skid, difflock is very handy but turf tires don't have much traction in mud so it'll get stuck kinda easy, but you can walk yourself out with the bucket and turning back and forth just fine

tele is cool, but after putting about 5 hours on it today cleaning up stuff around the house, I see zero need for it, I'm sure I will want it occasionally at work to reach up to retaining walls and stuff, but we don't encounter much here that I'd need that extra reach

already took the left door and both mirrors off, the GiAnt mirrors SUCK and are a total waste of money, can't adjust the friction on them and they are so loose that they will move just from the vibration at idle, and I hit my head on the left mirror maybe 15 times today just getting on and off

trailer hitch is a really nice pin and ball setup, machine doesn't like to climb steep hills but I can make due, self leveling is way different on the non tele as you can curl back and still boom down, the tele is hydraulic self leveling (I think) and won't let you boom down unless you curl off the stop at the back (atleast on my demo), but I do believe it lets you curl back farther as the boom goes up unlike mine, I can barely curl the plate back past vertical even boomed up to max reach, hydraulics aren't super fast even if you stand on the throttle, but honestly I think that might be a good thing to stop the operator from getting too crazy, especially around employees near the attachment

non tele also doesn't have buttons on the joystick for the aux hydraulics so you have to move your hand, not a huge deal IMO, backup alarm got unplugged less than 5 minutes after getting the machine home
is that a giant? under new holland stickers?

The new loader kicked ass today! showed up and the yard was so soft that we were leaving footprints in it, loader walked all over it and all it did was mat the grass down, hit it with a blower and the only things you can see are scrape marks from where I dropped the grapple too far down

grapple is a rental, will end up with this style eventually but BMG for the win, although I'm getting really good at running this one and moving heaps of brush really, really fast, but its terrible to chip with, thought I could make forks work and decided it was worth the $270 to rent a grapple for a week

customer was impressed by the lack of lawn damage, if I brought a mini skid I would have needed to make a plywood road or totally destroy the yard

the lack of buttons for the third function honestly doesn't bother me one bit, sure it slows me down just a little but its not that bad

drove over this spot back and forth for 8 hours today, this is a before and after of fluffing it with a BR800 which took maybe 2 minutes

I sent a friendly reminder about a certain bill, dude left me on read for the second time in a row, guess he thinks this is a game he wants to play

Makes good sauce 😑😁
I found a recipe they looks dead simple. 1 box Pomi strained tomatoes, 1 box finely diced tomatoes. Sautee some onions and garlic, then add tomatoes, chopped basil, oregano. Maybe some thyme, I'll have to check again. I have some red lentil pasta to try, also.

Just don't leave the parking brake on. I saw one drive away with it on. The back wheels were locked, but it dragged them with the front.

almost did that, I rarely use them on equipment like this since the hydraulics will hold it, but I was on a hill and had to get off, didn't want it to creep, sure enough it'll move but its not happy about it

reminds me of the day I struggled to get into 2nd gear in my truck, then tried third and it wouldn't pull it, forgot the parking brake 🤦‍♂️neighbor was watching too

well today was shyte

topping some cherry trees in a fence row for a wedding venue, I noped out of climbing this job last week, 6 trees in underbrush so thick I couldn't see the ground from 5ft up, barbed wire fence, holley bushes and thorns all over, decided to come back with a lift, got an SD50, piece of garbage IMO, can't work close to the machine or below about 30-35ft because the upper boom can't go down and the lower boom is like a bucket truck, but it levels the upper boom so you lose any reach near the machine, vines in the tree tops so everything was stuck, rental lift had a damaged hose track (and dented boom) so I could only scope 2/3rds of the way out so some sketchy basket climbing and one handing got done, fighting crazy wind, and forgot a rope so we had to use ratchet straps to drag everything out of the fence row with the Giant

job was pissing me off so bad I ended up throwing my 194T out of the lift, and I got a nasty sunburn, no pictures from work today for reasons, without going into detail this is the worst work week I've had in a very long time, but I've got a few easy jobs lined up and we are planning to kick ass on Saturday when we revisit yesterdays underbid mess

You could work in an office or a kitchen. All things in perspective young man. Did you have your bellybutton attacked by ants today? I did. Had to shower when I got home to wash off the heebie jeebies. At one point, you couldn't have told freckles from ants. Big deep breath, and remember the day is only as bad as you allow it to be.

no ants today, but I've had so many when I'm splitting firewood, and coming from north florida, I don't even want to think about ants!

ah, the day I knocked a track off the mini ontop of a ground nesting yellow jacket nest, that was another bad day, still not as bad as today, vines annoy me to no end

going to see what the rental place has to say about them renting me a broken lift that slowed us down a lot, called and they said they might give me my money back, I'm fine paying but not full price since they rented me a lift under the expectation that I could use 100% of its reach, and got 50% which cost me multiple hours

and no, no office or kitchen for me, I'd end up in prison by the end of the first week, atleast doing tree work I can take my anger out on some unsuspecting trees every day

Wind-ed out of a bid for customers where the wife is taking a forestry course and wants to make a management plan for their 5-8 acre parcel that has some root disease and tall firs upwind of their new shop. Nice millable trees.

Fruit trees are almost done being pruned. Bus are swelling and breaking in warmer microclimates.

Full dance card.

Loaded a trailer full of trash wood out of my yard, got a few bids to do, took the lift back and got half off the rental because of the damaged hose track and dented boom which will cover next week's grapple rental, hoping to order a bmg soon, probably have my vermeer dealer order it like last time since I was able to get a decent deal

Feeling almost a little sick after this week, mental state not good but I'm kicking, season just started and I'm ready to go to Florida for the weekend and go offroading with my brother but I don't have time lol

I need to talk my rental place into buying an sd64

Throwing saws out of trees or lifts is no bueno.
Performative anger.

got the go ahead on a nightmare job for a buddy of mine, 28" DBH ~110ft tulip poplar, over a fence, lots of ornamental's, treehouse, neighbors yard, can't touch anything and the dropzone is about 10 square feet, climbed it the other day only to see the rot that we couldn't see from the ground, nothing above the 30ft long limbs to tie into (its 4 limbs right at the top, top broke off already) so I can't cut small pieces, with the rot that leaves me with a crane or a lift, called about a spider lift and its 3K per day, crane isn't much option because it has to go in the neighbors driveway, driveway is maybe 12ft wide and has 3ft tall retaining walls on both sides so we'd have to jack the crane up 4ft, set it on wood, shoot the outriggers out on one side and short jack the other, just to use the crane as a tie in point

oh the jobs I get into, nothing really good to rig up a skyline or anything to tie into either, and zero room to fall the tree, going to try and measure off google maps and see if I can fit a 130+ foot JLG lift in there, since the spider option is out, lift has to go in the neighbors driveway, and I'm going to have to make a plywood road for it

honestly about to just tell the guy to call someone else, the jobs an hour away, quick job once I'm there but getting it done is gonna be difficult, can't bring the 70 ton and set it up in the road because power lines

A little over a week left in our clearing season. It’s all hands on deck. They want (5) 12 hour days and 10 on Saturday. I’m doing (5) 10’s and an 8. Not that I’m old, but I’m too old to have any desire to work those hours anymore.
Leaving a few hours early today to meet with the tax guy. Shouldn’t take long but I have a pile of questions. Hoping to use the time after to go out to dinner with my wife.

What is this Ancient Egypt?
Those are crazy hours, Ps what is ‘clearing season’?

we have “environmental” deadlines. Apparently a few threatened species of bats move back into our area on April fools day every year. Any work with state or federal funds plus certain utilities do most of the clearing while the bats are wintering somewhere else. It’s always a mess this time of year. Everyone waits till the last minute to get things done and they pay dearly to make the deadline.
I used to foolishly find pride in being able to work the hours and get everything done. All that did was get me more work to do. The money is nice but I got better things to do than work like that anymore.

finished Wednesday's job, Wednesday went really crappy, today I brought help, had equipment lined up, everything was perfect, textbook day, got into some funky double rope tree pulling to help "contain" the stems from the hemlock behind the shed as we fell them, worked really nicely

start a 2 or 3 day job tomorrow, I bid it for 3 days but hoping to squeeze it into 2 and take Tuesday off while still making a days pay to sit at home, then another 2 day job Wednesday hauling logs, been busy all the sudden

new machine has 24 hours already, yikes

well I guess I lied about today being perfect, got dust in my eye and it won't wash out, hoping it goes away on its own before I have to go to bed, I can't keep my eye shut, tried rubbing it out with my eyelid which usually works, tried rinsing it, can't see it when looking with a magnifying glass or my phone camera but I sure can feel it, pretty sure I scratched my eyeball but we will see
