How'd it go today?

Cranes are never big enough. I was rigging on a rental with the 4100. The crane was reaching across a pool that was ten feet higher elevation, probably 50', maybe more horizontally, then over 100' trees, and the climber asks if he's got any more boom. :|:

Isn’t that a PITA when the crane is 2/3 the height of the tree?🤣 Welcome to my life
No kidding, the 30102 is always a foot short, i couldn't begin to tell how many times I've had the operator hold the a2b over ride button down for that last little bit

Had to "catch" few pieces due to a lack of height, essentially lay them over slow and id catch and swing then towards me, easier said than done, atleast there's no lmi cable on this thing because I had that boom all up in the brush

Still thinking an under cdl 60ft 14 ton would be a sweet little thing to have, might get one if I find the right deal on it, too bad they are all center mounts and not rear mounts, so 180 chart and a truck bed in the way of accessing anything

Well, ended up Sinking the chip truck again, almost on the axles this time, spent multiple hours last night digging, putting wood under the tires, chaining wood to the wheels to use as paddles, pulling with a 4wd pickup, still stuck, debating on grcs and a bunch of parts of line, 5 ton chain hoist, or just calling my buddy to bring a unimog out with a hydraulic winch, shutting the road down and dragging it out that way

Decreasing tire pressure to increase flotation helps, more in the desert than mud. Don't run it down the road aired down.

Do you have any trees or anything to anchor pulleys to increase pull?

Gravel is better fill than boards.

No gravel, it's not sinking so much as just spinning and digging

I do have a tree, set the grcs up with a 4:1 and it barely helped, using the rope stretch to help rock it out of the hole, just ripping apart my cribbing blocks at this point, phoned a friend to bring his unimog out

Deadwooded/pruned a really nice bur oak, finished a homeowner Norway maple removal, and removed some storm damaged spruce limbs. And washed the fleet for the first time this year, damn salt.

I’m finally feeling good enough to walk around with garden and do some joinery work on the treehouse railing posts. I’ve weaned myself down to 1/4 of a pill every 4hrs, and I think I’ve found the right mix of fiber and laxatives 🙄. I can poo on the toilet instead of having to lay in the bath🤮.by my calculations, I’ve taken over 100 baths in the last week and a half. That’s more baths than I’ve probably had in 20 years!
If things keep getting better like this I should be able too cut the oxy entirely a just do Tylenol. 3 weeks is the danger zone for addiction, I should be off it by the end of week 2. At least the weather is friggin' beautiful!

With beautiful days, and better mobility, I’m taking a break from any of the political forums for a bit. I’ve got better things that o can get out and do!

It looks like spring there. Thank you for the hopeful pictures.
We are now entering yet another mud season here. I could put my crane on lawns last week with no mats and now I can’t walk with out sinking. Oh and just to make things more fun, we have rain forecasted for tomorrow afternoon and throughout the night. I love Ohio weather

Looking at putting some much wider steer tires on my truck in hopes it'll float a little tiny bit better, still won't offroad worth a crap but atleast I may have hopes of only having to pull one sunken axle out, losing the ability to steer on mud won't affect me any worse than sinking will so I'm not worried lol, going to have to adjust the stops on my steering tho

Other than that, nothing fun going on, I think the clutch finally broke in after trying to get rocked out of that hole, super nice and grabby now, very happy, next on the agenda I think is a new dump hoist pump, this one sucks and it's in a bad spot

Looking at 315s, I honestly did look at 385s but I cant clear them, dang narrow fenders, and a lack of dual steering boxes will make it tough lol

Seeing if anyone local will trade, like new rubber and rims, shouldn't be too difficult

Float? Yes. Steer? No.
Thats the idea, doesnt steer well with both axles collecting mud, atleast the front floating will make it a little easier to keep the back from digging so hard, gonna invest in a winch and chains for it I guess

Only if you want to cut down on the hours of wasted time getting stuck and unstuck. If otherwise, then why bother?

:);)
Thats the plan, I'd rather be not stuck with no steering, than be stuck and have no steering

Also smoother ride, and I can get them for pretty cheap locally, every truck outfit here runs fatter steers (315, 385 and 425) so 295s are harder to find

The issue I'm having is the front end sinks, which causes the rear to push harder, eventually spinning, and you cannot hit the clutch fast enough to avoid it sinking, the instant you feel it slip it's gone, the duals won't sink on their own (in 99% of circumstances where i work)
