How'd it go today?

I believe this to be the last picture you guys see of my machine, dropped it off at the dealer yesterday and the new owner gets it wednesday

all in all, from this experience I can say, selling a "new" machine, with warranty and financing options is so much easier than a worn out pile of crap like I'm used to selling

going to manually carry everything till work picks up to a point where I have to get a machine all the time, then go buy that wheel loader, the excavator was amazing but a touch large for my jobs, and a real pain to climb in and out of it hundreds of times a day, new owner has an SCL1000, 860 avant, 90ft CMC lift, big diesel bandit grinder, small kubota tractor, so he's got everything for every type of job, I feel the excavator will stay at his yard and move logs mostly, but it'll open up jobs that his other equipment can't get to

I got a quote on the ML12 (Giant G1200) and like the price, I'm waiting to hear back about the telescopic model, I don't want to lose the capacity but being able to load over the 8ft tall sides of my truck, feed a chipper easier, reach over retaining walls, etc, I think it might end up being worth the slight increase in the payment, still a hell of a lot cheaper than the excavator was

A friend is gonna loan me his mini ex and I’m gonna put a fixed thumb and or splitter on it to deal with the rest of this : IMG_1033.jpeg
Pick the pile apart and hold the logs instead of climbing the pile.
It’s all filthy and dusty, probably firehose it as I go. Husky sp33g is good chain.

Some of those ugly mesquite logs sure are pretty inside.

395 had some too. IMG_1032.jpeg

I went in to get a routine colonoscopy on Wednesday. I’ve had a periodic hemorrhoid for a long time. “ we can take care of that while we’re in there if you want.” Great. Failed to mention potential weeks of intense pain 🫣.
Currently trying to stay sane and get through this without becoming addicted to oxy. Hopefully it’s worth it all said and done.

@Porkbrick Gotta love the full disclosure :dude: :D :big-not-worthy:especially since it sounds alot like my situation. Colonoscopy pending. May I ask your age?

I’m 47 and not especially high as far as risk factors go. My grandfather passed from prostate cancer at 82, and my mom survived breast cancer 15 years ago. Definitely something I didn’t want to put off for too long. Colonoscopy was no problem. It was the hemorrhoid operation. There are 3 veins in the colon that weaken and bulge to a greater or lesser degree to form hemorrhoid. They go in a put a band around any tissue that protruding, like banding the balls on a ram😳. I have to say, I can’t remember a time when I’ve been in more pain for such a sustained time. The region involved really adds insult to injury 😝.

Dang! I thought Dr Google seemed to say that banding is a highly effective, simple, mostly painless treatment? Doh!

edit: ok, not painless, but pain should relieve after a few days. Infrared nuking of roids is allegedly pain free

I'm not a medical professional, all I know is to wrap electrical tape and shop towels around anything leaking as long as its still attached

but, just on the side of "trying not to get addicted to oxy" has me thinking, would medical marijuana be of any help? not sure the legality ofr if it's safe for you @Porkbrick but it was a thought I had when I saw this last night, not really a pain killer, but it may make you a LOT more tolerant to it, to a point where tylenol may be enough to totally be pain free

try at your own risk, again all I know is blue shop towels and tape, but it was an idea, home remedy if you will

Seek out trauma training, youngster. Start with basics. Many fire departments offer free CPR classes. Learning how to properly set a tourniquet or staunch a wound could easily save a life. The more you learn, the better off you are. Also remember that if you can't self rescue, chances are, the "rescuers" are just recovering a body.

You don't have to go too far with it, just learn how to stabilize someone as best can be done in the situation, until the real pros can show up and help.

I've done an aerial rescue class and got my CPR card, but I won't give advice like I know anything, I might be able to stop a dude from dying, but I'm absolutely LAST in line to help, I know I would be more in the way than helpful

gotta rent a machine for tomorrows job, just a ~18ft long maple spar with a root ball, maybe 30" diameter wood, and a small hemlock thingy, I see no more than 1 trailer load of materials to haul off

its $480 for a CTX100 and a grapple bucket, or $530 for a bobcat with a grapple, sold the job for a mini skid, but I'm debating if its worth getting the full size bobby to load this root ball, only like 6ft diameter and 3ft thick, but from past experiences I know its going to be HEAVY, problem is, its on a yard, not a very nice one but I treat them all the same, so I'd hate to tear it up with the big machine, but I think I may have to

I have mats, hate pulling them out lol

getting a full size machine, not sure a CTX100 will even budge this root ball, and for the size wood I have to move, the bigger grapple will make life easier, and probably less ground damage overall because 3 trips vs maybe 15, and I get the full size machine for the rest of the day at my house to help clean up and move stuff

Knock off as much dirt as possible.
I will, plan is to try and fill the hole in with as much dirt from the stump as possible, I get charged $60 a ton, so every pound I can get is coming off unless I can talk the mulch yard across town into taking it

almost thought about having my guy come grind it while its still attached to the tree, but he'd be there for 5 or 6 hours and charge more than I'm charging for the whole job

vermeer sc292

the tree I'm doing is actually about 5 feet to the left of this picture, top was cut out of the road, city is dealing with that which saves me a lot of work

Went in late today. Just cause. I got up a little late and didn't feel like rushing. I spend enough time in the office waiting on the boss, so he can wait on me for a change. Pretty shit day. I'm just gonna list bullet points. Otherwise, it'll be paragraphs...

Cold and windy as shit. Couldn't use a plumb bob standing up.

Frozen ground with areas of mud that were under cover.

Too windy to see close with my glasses pulled down, so they went in the truck, and I walked around blind.

Didn't finish cause boss' hands were too cold.

What we did get done was wrong cause boss blew the comps. Have to go back tomorrow.

The one good thing was I keep buffs in the truck. I could wear one as a hat cause there was a 0% chance my boonie hat would stay on my head. I switched from hat configuration to balaclava. Very versatile and cheap piece of gear.

So…was nail biter today. Not a loss but not a complete victory.

Couple big bearings

IMG_1062.jpeg

Liquid nitro freeze the shaft

IMG_8797.jpeg

Heat the wheel 500°

IMG_8796.jpeg

Drop the shaft in the wheel, put one bearing on the bottom and one on the top quickly and simultaneously while they are warm and the shaft cold….then the drive coupling…
IMG_8799.jpeg

…but the couple got stuck half way. Deal with tomorrow. As long as the wheel or bearings didn’t get stuck we’re OK.

IMG_1070.jpeg

The interference fit between the shaft and wheel is .020”. A human har is .003”. Heat/shrink is the only way. Once they are together, they are one. The only way to get the shaft out is to cut it out. If you get stuck half way, bad day.

The bearings are only .001” interference, I think they should be maybe .003”. The coupling is .004”…should have gotten it hotter.
