How'd it go today?

Saw my first elm tree today! It was in Baltimore city of all places.

City trees amaze me as they can live quite a long time and get fairly large in such cramped spaces. I know they have shorter life spans and more issues than their forest counterparts, but it’s still interesting to see how they make do with their limiting environment.

Had a great day doing a storm clean up. It was a minimal impact job and it went great

There were two other trees not pictured but that was the path we took. Put a lot of miles on the mini and with the amount of rain we’ve had this is better than expected for disturbance. The mud just kinda bubbled up through the grass under the mats. The home owner expected much worse, so he was happy.

Power came back on last night after dinner...off for a nice even 24 hours. The little WEN generator earned its keep. That thing just sips fuel in the eco mode. 24 running hours used about 1 and 1/3 gallons of gas.

We had a large western hemlock back in the woods break off about 30 feet up in the high winds of the last 2 days. Made a real mess to clean up, knocked down a couple of alders and a bunch of old vine maples that were pretty. But it just missed smashing the "porch" swing I have hung from a post and beam frame right near the base of the hemlock, so I'm feeling very lucky :).

FINALLY got a sunny dayand got home early from work; thus, I finally installed my new radiator. Still waiting on some parts. But... she's running. The Exhaust Pressure Sensor tube was clogged making the 7.3 run rough and smoke too much. See how she does in the morning. Still waiting on that particular sensor. And it was easier to change the tube with the radiator cowling out of the way.
Still need to change out an injector that sound weak when I test it. Just installed all 8 rebuilt. So, warranty issue. We'll see. Hearing this company is a PITA and I can see why when I received their their warranty slip. Its like, dude they failed. I dont want another set like that. I already put OEM back in. I want my money back. Hope no damage from your failed parts.

“off for a nice even 24 hours”

Our power went out for about 5 minutes once. About 3 minutes in my wife says “Oh my God what are we going to do” like it was the end of the world. I said how about we just enjoy each other’s company. She damn near lost her mind trying to find the power company phone number, lol.

John came over and we turned the poplar spar into a smaller snag. It can’t reach the house at this point and the birds will enjoy it. Truthfully, it would be nice if it sprouted out and it would just get maintained as needed. If it wasn’t so close to the house, I would have left it. It was a beautiful and healthy specimen as well as one of the tallest around. It was our first times chunking down a larger diameter tree (each took a turn for the experience) I used the 395xp with a 28” bar. It just made it. Once a rhythm and technique was developed, the saw didn’t even need to be shut down between cuts and it was “easy”.

The neighbor wanted the wood for their fire pit. We took it to their side of the creek and made it smaller.

Went to Mike's to chunk down the poplar stem. I haven't been in spurs in about a year. I'd be lying if I said I was perfectly comfortable with the climb. I went up first, took it down a bit, set a line, and Mike finished. We both broke the wood down on the ground and tossed it on the neighbor's property since they wanted it. Mike toting his 395...

Two questions... I went up with my flipline, and also dragged my lanyard up girth hitched around the stem. Is that what y'all do? It was a bit of a hassle. I ended up attaching paracord to the biner so I could haul it up with me. It was very slow. I always just fliplined up, but this was higher than I've been on spurs, and I'm out of practice. I like the added security of a second line.

Secondly, have any of you noticed Huskies smell better than Stihls? This wasn't first time. Mikes saws smell better than mine. His has the old school roasty smell I remember from when I was a kid. Mine are sharper, and don't have a defined petrol smell. We both use Stihl silver oil. The only difference is my gas is corn free, but if anything, I'd expect that would have the old fashioned smell, not the corn gas.

If you know you are going to climb the spar again and want a life line in it as you flip line up, keep a stub you can leave a throw line over or bore a hole through the stem to put a line through. When you come back, set your life line. Then climb with flip line using a chest attatchment to advance the devise or hitch while the guy and the ground holds the tail or weight it.

Went into urgent care today about noon
Got sent to emergency & sat there until around 7
they tried a few different things that did nothing.
Real doc finally showed after 5 hrs & said I have a temporal vein problem & wanted me to take a pill (prednisone), but wanted me to go to hospital to do that.
waited in another room for a couple hours &just kept feeling worse...freaked out. said I was leaving & pulled out IV (mistake).
Home now & much more calm & comfortable.
Doc had nurse call & they want me to go back. He was a bit upset & says it's a pretty serious thing.
Told them I'm considering it, but maybe not until morning.
Told them I can't just lay around doing nothing forever in hospital.
I'll probably go back in tonight, but maybe bring a book to read...I just had to get out of there for a while.

That sucks. That's a long time sitting around with nothing to do, and nothing being done. You could do that at home, and least be more comfortable.
