How'd it go today?

Didn't kill a thing today for a change. Pruned two doug-firs, one hemlock, one bigleaf maple, one japanese maple, Erik did a tulipy tree that I don't know the proper name of, almost saw my neighbors puppy run over by the neighbor girl who is a known speeder down our private road, only missed by an inch or less, and almost had an old man run over my 361, missing by inches. Told Erik from the tree that something needed to be done. He's wiser now.

I landed a apple orchard restoration with a three year annual pruning contract. It was a very good day.

Congrats, nice to lock in future work as well as being able to see the results of your pruning efforts over time. Stumper (Justin) does a bit of orchard pruning as well.

Did a real smart thing today.
I was felling a large ash on the side of a mudfilled ditch. Since it had to slide around another tree on the way down, i cut the hinge almost all the way through as it went.
Actually a little bit more than almost, so the tree slid off the stump and crashed into the ditch, sending a verutable geyser of mud up.

Coated me from boots to helmet.
Good thing I was close to home, because I had to strip and ride home in my undies to get another set of clothes!

Lol, I hope you can laugh about it now. I always keep a spare change of clothes in the truck.

Doing some maintenance work today. TD'd a Linden yesterday. Gorgeous tree, I was climbing/subbing in for another company. About halfway through(only took me an hour or so) I start to hear the ground crew mumblings of 'I coulda done that' and so forth. Always cracks me up how everyone's a climber when their feet are firmly planted on the ground.

I am now pretty well swamped in work again and hoping it warms up a bit.

Stig, I learned a long time ago to carry spare clothes in the truck.
Skwishey, glad you're rockin' and rollin'.

I had two small jobs for myself today, easy peasy. First was clearing a couple leads from over a roof, back yard. I did it all from the ground and roof with a pole saw and power pruner. Had to jump off a couple long logs that were a bit sketchy but they landed perfectly flat. 20'-25' long and 6"-12" diameter with about 3' clearance to the house and AC unit. I'm still running the original chain on my 2 year old Stihl power pruner and it's finally beginning to cut pretty good. My buddy Mike was running really late and showed up to chip about 10 minutes after I got everything out to the curb.

Second was a 15" wild cherry removal over a garage. Used the bucket as my crane and took the whole tree in 5 picks with Mike cutting from the garage roof and then from the ground. I have to head back there shortly to pay the stump grinder guy and collect my check.

Did my prune I had scheduled for today and was going to go up to TD a hung up pine I went and looked at up the road from me. Then I got lazy and did some running around instead, I stopped by the airport and filled up the mix can.. :)
Looks like I will be buying avgas Tues and Weds ;) Had to stop at the market for some dinner supplements.. Made sure I got the pork roast in the oven by 3:30 PM and just said the heck with it

YUP :D
The head dude went back there with me after he left me in and all was good. She is obviously worried about losing her job or taking any responsibility for anything. No worries. I will just work around her. ;)

The forecast 4-8 inches of snow that was supposed to accumulate when it started snowing yesterday afternoon turned into a whopping .5 inch. Since I hadn't planned on dealing tree death and destruction today I ran around doing $5k worth of bids and can plan to moider a big willow in 50plus degree temps on the morrow.

I had to go to court today about the woman who owes $3500 and wont return my calls. Got a judgement so now I guess at least I can file a lean on the property after 10 working days. She didnt even show. Hey Ranger, if it would help your old man out I could probably rustle up an old Wraptor for him to use for a while.

Another day of only pruning. Fruit trees again. And bid another job for another apple prune sold. Today, and orchard, an then two single apples. Maybe a doug-fir canopy raise. Then perhaps a spruce death. Ready for fruit trees' season to be over thought, the hand sawing and hand pruners all day are tough on my hands. They help fill in the spring schedule well, though.

I wonder about those hydraulic or electric units. I could get more fruit trees done in a day, with less strain. Anybody know about 'em? Would take a while to pay off, maybe, but increased longevity of body is good. Probably other things first. https://www.oescoinc.com/felcotroni....html?osCsid=7d74b3a11b91d0b92cc02897ea847eec

My uncle used to use pneumatic bypass pruners. They had a pto driven compressor on a tractor, and had one guy on each side of the row. They were aluminum, not that heavy, but I don't remember the brand name. Real fast.

I bid a job a few weeks back and the owner was pruning his orchard with a set of those battery powered pruners. Looked sweet and he loves them. Comes with a 5' pole you can attach and a glove with the switch in the finger. Made in France, he said he did alot of research before buying that brand. He also said they will cut 1.75" dead branch, pretty impressive.

Myself, I prefer these for fruit trees as the main weapon of choice.

Rob broke a handle on my corona bypass loppers today .... second pair to suffer that fate. So I have to get handy with the drill and fix two pair.
I have a set of bull pruners I gave him that are steel handles and they got left at a job site that I am not going back to for about a week. Dude is hard on my shat. Period.
burned some staged slash on an account today and then worked down the driveway. The guy that lives above her shack/cabin is a total dink about a driveway he had done on his easement through her property. So all the hot coals are away from the deteriorating asphalt that needs replacing. Cones and reflective triangles marking the hot coals. I took pics of everything just in case. If so much of a peep starts up with this guy (he is studying to be an injury lawyer if that tells you anything) I am going to be pissed.:X
This guy literally tried to block our access onto her property a while back. He owns nothing until past her. I love our client and I work on two of her properties and she is awesome with referrals. But I have my limits to how much I will put up with on a job site.

What's the difference between a lawyer and a trampoline? You take your boots off to jump on the trampoline. ;)

Hump day of a LONGGG-ass week; converting some old machinery from monstrous generators to modern electronics.

Gonna pop smoke next week and hang with the Skwerl for a few days in the land of sans-snow.
