How'd it go today?

Wish I had a paint gun, but then my painting projects are usually small enough to handle with rollers and brushes.

Today I putzed with my carport wall a bit more. Finished putting up the inside paneling, primed everything that wasn't primed, caulked and got some painting done on it. One more good day should just about finish it.

I spent the entire afternoon working my butt off . I moved my raised bed veggie patch to a more sunny location .

To nail the timbers together I used 50 D common nails .Those you do not drive with a 16 ounce hammer but a 3 pound ball peen will get -er -done .

I use a 24 oz Estwing for trim work and a 28 oz for framing. Trying to bang trim nails with the 28 usually results in a sore thumb or finger. :(

Time lapse thing .Where did two years go ? Anyway the excavator will be here tommorow to dig out the footer and crawl space for my new house addition which I need like another butt hole .

Little rubber tread mini trac hoe deal .19 yards of dirt .Couple hundred bucks,a lot better than a pick and shovel I'll tell ya .Been that route before ,didn't like it .

It's only been a year, Al. Hard to believe it's been a whole year since I built that side wall for my carport.

Anyway, today I went to look at a job referred to me by a friend who owns a retail nursery. He said it was a back yard climbing job but I went anyway. Turns out it's a big dead oak growing up on both sides of the power lines along the back property line, and the tree is actually on his neighbor's property behind him. I gave him a price for climbing and removing his half which he accepted, then I went around to speak with his neighbor and try to sell the rest of the removal. Finally caught up with the neighbor lady around dinnertime and she was a bit cool at first but then she warmed up to me a bit. Best part is her driveway goes right up to the back of the tree so I have full bucket access to the entire tree from her side, and I think I got it sold. A nice little $2100 job, possibly $2900 if she has me work on another tree as well.

I've gotten busier then hell all of a sudden. Took today to do maintenance as some of my equipment really needs it, and I need a bit of a break, already looks like I'm working atleast saturday. Also cramming in looking at places in the evening and horseback riding so yah I'm starting to feel really burn't out. Deadwooded a giant willow yesterday though, nice day, nice job, beautiful tree. That was pretty therapeutic. Might be writing a deal on a new place this weekend, fingers crossed.

Not big, unfortunately. 10.8acres all useable. I don't want to move into the boonies what with my business and my daughter being five. From this place she could ride her bike to school, very centrally located. While I could stand to be more isolated I don't think it'd be fair for my daughter as it would really limit what activities she could be involved in. Totally private and surrounded by farm land that is 'locked' into the Agricultural Land Reserve here. Super fertile nice land, 6acres in hay, and some nice pastures. Really nice house and quite a decent shop too, barns and all that sorta stuff that we want. And when I say private I mean private, nothing but view to be seen. Don't wanta jinx it though, if we sign I'll post some pics.

Best wishes for you and the property deal, Skwishey. Sounds almost exactly like my dream property. But the shop has to be big enough to park my bucket truck and the rest of my vehicles inside, plus room to work. 8)

Unfortunately that's not the reality here. a 10' and 8' bay, 40' deep. Wood and natural gas heat, fully insulated, and 200amp service though. Bucket won't be coming inside.

Life got a LOT better today! My "job" is done! We went to his Dr's appointment, doc looked at it, walked him to the Chiropractor down the hall and he popped it back in place! Two weeks of Hell and loosing my butt, turned into two and a half days of boredom, I was under the $600 limit, so no 10-99 and it's all cash! HUGE burden off me and I didn't come out really bad! Yesterday, I got paid for all of this:
Hour and half at his physical therapist, 45min at the shop smoking, 30min at Jiffylube, 45min in a crawl space replacing cast iron pipes that were plugged, half hour in a bicycle shop, 45min at Subway with another neighbor and his brother, hour and half with them at a skate/BMX park, half hour doing a bid, two hours cleaning his truck at the shop, and an hour and half changing out a hot water heater. With a lot of drive time in between! Left at 8:30, home at 10pm. It was really stupid!

Hope you can pull the land deal you want Squish. JM2C here, but we have 12 acres and staying on top of it is fun at best:|: Now granted.. Horses need room.. :D
Just saying don't bite off more than you can keep up ;)

I'm all kinds of wooped today. Big scarlet oak takedown, rig everything.

This is the 5th day of a 14 day woop-some-ass work blow out. We are hitting it hard for the next little while, so we can get our workers comp audit bill paid ($11,000+). Sucks, but at least the work came around at exactly the moment we needed it.

Today was kind of lousy, our chipper broke down again for the 5th time in 2 months thank god we only had a 3 pieces left. I also am getting real tired of pine sap, I hate how the stuff manages to get every where. Hope everyone else's day went better than mine.

Worked on the nasty slope on the left.. So today I was once again the dope on the slope with the rope.

Strung a high line across the upper part of the slope so I could just traverse and rap down on a pulley floating across it. Went pretty slick. Wanted to get some pics but it got hot today and cooked the camera. Once I cooled it off at home (100 F at noon) I hit the reset and got it working again.
Now the cooler pump is failing... I need to go back to town.
Slope work is done on that job. Now just felling and limbing below the house.
Came home to a check for a new construction clearance job. :D
Katy is off to work soon so I better go get the new pump so I can take over with the kids :)

Edit: And I just got a message canceling a weeks work on an escrow job. :( Damn

Stop by the auto parts store and grab some GOJO original hand cleaner. The white creamy stuff, not the orange scented gritty stuff. Keep a can in every truck and use it to clean the sap off.

The way it's set-up actually it would be alot less yard work then I have at my current place. But I hear what you're saying. The haying is done right now on a 50/50 split. A guy does all the haying and places half of it in the hayshed, voila. I'll probably keep that set-up that way to start atleast. It has 'farm status' which for up here has alot of tax saving implications that are very attractive. I'm hoping it goes down, I should know by this weekend but I guess it's not a done deal until you're actually getting the keys right? Possession wouldn't probably be until early spring. No one likes to move in the winter around here for some crazy reason. Lol.
