How'd it go today?

Decided I heard enough explosions for a while today, so I went and trimmed a couple trees near a house. Got done right at dark. First time my wife ever saw me do any of it, I'm hoping she's impressed lol

My gf just rolls her eyes, my 5 year old thinks it's no big deal either. My gf's son is 12 and he doesn't care, now, everyone else, they are amazed.

I often think the hobo life might be nice, but getting rid of all my stuff seems like to much work!
Storm damage after storm the schedule is shot for a week plus just doing what I can get to in my small scale biz.
Today at least the rain held off while getting a truck from the middle of a oak failure free. Don't know how but only a tailgate and hood to fix. Off to look at 3 more. Cheers

I'm only still in business 'cause nobody is buying my stuff.(not working hard enough at selling it:lol:)

I did however learn a couple cool new riffs playing around on the fiddle today...8)

Open heart surgery.......
Pruned a large hollow black oak and the a couple small pines, dropped Rob off on another job site before that. Did an estimate prior to getting greasy and ran Seth to scouts. Soon it will be story and bed time.

She shall ride again.....
I ran out of day light today. I'll button it up tomorrow. Some modification was required :/: :D
They changed a few things. I originally wanted to upgrade to a 20 HP when I did this. But this will buy me about 2000 hours before I have to think about it again. Probably have an Avant or something by that time. 13 HP is easy on fuel. And she really does work hard enough for her size.
I was just so not sure the 20 HP would fit. Engines have changed over the years. And I could have possibly had to modify hydraulics and such to make it fit. For a little over $800.00 clams, it really is a cheap fix for all she does.

After beeing a hedge trimmer for 3 weeks, I finally got to play logger today.
Got a distress call yesterday from a harvester guy who was clearcutting spruce and ran into a lot of blowdown, he couldn't handle because the ground was too boggy for him to manuever properly.
So I grabbed the 661 and a 30" bar and headed for the woods this morning.
Holy Moly!
Those trees had grown on top of the bog. No downwards roots whatsoever.
They had fallen in clumps of 2-4 trees and the rootplates were up to 7-8 feet tall.
With no dirt on the underside, a lot of them didn't fall when I cut the trees loose. Or they waited till one fell and went like dominoes.
Cutting one like that, you really have to watch where your cut closes. On top and the root plate will likely fall on you when the tree drops. That size, and it is all she wrote.
With several trees uprooted in clumps, one has to stand on the bottom ones while bucking the top ones free. Gotta be sure which way they are going to swing, since getting away is tricky when balancing on a log.
I had a bit too much excitement on that job, but after all the hedges it sure was nice to breathe some forest air again.
Now I'm back to the hedges for another 2 weeks most likely, but at least they are keeping me out of the waterways this year.

What was the game called where you dumped sticks onto a table then had to pick them up one at a time without disturbing the ones left in the pile?
