How'd it go today?

Too bad the pay increase isn't retroactive, you should get more for keeping trees out of the way when moving the house down the street.

Sounds of an awesome opportunity Rajan...

I was supposed to rig a limb over a garden area off a good sized black walnut. It seems some snow snuck in last night, so I am going to reschedule it and the burning I had to do.
Thanks! I hope I can get in on it I am subbing for a sub so we'll see how it goes.

I am laid off right now, if you cant tell from all the posting. Been doing as much sidework as I can right now. Guy just called for an estimate. He said it was "A 60-75' tall black oak probably 16-20" in diameter, positioned right behind his pool with a shed, fence, and trampoline within 15'. "

Its a cut and leave all the wood and brush in the yard type of job. The downside is it raining, its an hour from my house, and my front left caliper is locked up making my brakes grind like a motha. I dont mind driving it to do it, but I do not want to drive there and back twice, especially if its not worth it $ wise.

He asked me for a quote over the phone and said he could text pictures. I am still waiting for the pictures. He seemed to know it would need climbed and its a nicer area + he has a pool, so I am guessing he isn't broke. I have a few ads up ranging from 'Quality tree care' to 'cheap tree removal' with differing content and I am not sure which one he called.

Any Ideas?

Your ads contradict each other!! Maybe put a reference number on the ad. Or make it a coupon with a 5% discount on one. Or tell the guy flat out that you need to be compensated for your drive time as it's out of your normal service area.

I agree, I will change the phone number on the 'cheap' one. I have my own number and then I have a ***-TREE number I will use for the 'Quality' and 'expert' ads.

I am thinking I take a gamble, like a lotto ticket, and just pitch him a number blind & drive out there, do it, and collect. Im just trying to think how much to say... Its kindo like liars-poker but with tree work, it has worked out in the past and I can walk away if need be.

So the question is you think, whats it worth to the home owner based on their description of the tree? I dont want to gouge him, but I hate underbidding.

The drive time should be figured into the overall price.

Your going to attract the wrong type of clients if you label yourself as cheap tree removal and you will sell yourself short.

Also, if you are going in blind you can figure out an hourly rate. That will help make sure you don't screw yourself. If the homeowner doesn't want to do that, then tell him thanks and it was nice talking to him.

I hate going in blind. It makes me jittery for some reason. I stay away from it as much as possible but I have done it and I'm sure will do it again in the future. I've made fat piles of money off it, and also wasted time and fuel on dead end situations too.

He made a video.. but missed the top almost completely :) ????

I am getting pics of the top @ 2pm... Thoughts?

It doesn't look so bad: but not an easy tree for sure. Plenty of room to rope everything out and block down - roping or bombing.
