How'd it go today?

I am subbing out a job that I started yesterday morning. I think it is beyond my climbing skills (I should just stick to bucket work). Took out a 60' bull pine next to a restaurant on a really busy street in the afternoon. Pictures are in the camera.

We are going out of town this weekend,so I am not working today or tomorrow to get things in order...This is the first time I have gotten to lay out of work in a long time.

I got a small 45 minute job done this morning, finished in the rain. It's been raining ever since. The cable guy is supposed to be here between 2-4 (it's now 3) to run a line and get me hooked up on broadband internet but it's not looking good for his arrival. I expect he will wait until 4:30 to call me and tell me he isn't coming.

I bought a new MS 200t today because mine is acting up and I don't have a back up. My main stress of late is billing. There are just too many outstanding bills out there. If everyone pays, life will be good.

Good going on the new saw, Darin. Soon you will be very accustomed to having two climbing saws and the convenience of always having a backup saw ready and waiting. I use both of mine equally, grabbing whichever one is convenient. I'm not slowed down by minor inconveniences like a slightly dull chain or even running out of fuel. Just grab the other and keep going. At breaktime I can refuel and sharpen two saws as easily as one.

Looks like I was mistaken about the cable guy. He never called. :what:
So far Brighthouse isn't impressing me much.

Darin, make all your work "payment upon completion" It is just too hard as an owner/operator to send out billing, keep track of it ect.

It also allows for instant feedback on all your work.

I tell customers this : "I am a small company and for me to send you a bill I would have to hire a billing clerk to work part time, I can only do approx. 5 or 6 jobs of your size a week and for me to pay a clerk a decent wage, say $400 per week I would have to add $80.00 to every job to cover that expense"

I never have a customer balk at paying me when we pull away. It is prediscussed and printed on all my estimates. If someone can't pay you the day you do the work (or make arrangements for that evening) move on because they plan on stringing you out.

Accounts Receivable can be a beautiful thing come November but it seems like the farther away the work gets, the harder it is to get people to pay up.
Jonsered's reply is right on.

Loaded up all the stuff off the patio (2 table and chair sets, patio umbrellas, flower pots, storage bin, foldie chairs, excess tools that chould been in my work storage space anyways, etcetc) and took them for an hour drive north to my inlaws, they are going to store them up there while our condo gets it building envelope redone. sigh. Tuesday I take our BBQ to my parents place a half hour the other way. Patio is now off limits to about..... Oct 2008. seriously.

on the other hand, I am sipping a nice 500ml can of Stella, cotemplating what to pack for my four day weekend up at Loon Lake, near Cache Creek BC. headed up to meet a buddy and his wife at his parents cabin (house sized log cabin on the lake, they live there year round). The wife and I will make the same trek on the labor day long weekend in a month. she stays home this weekend, the poor dear.

Blue Angels

My big job for the day was to take my daughter and her friend down to lake Washington and watch the Navy Blue Angels fly around while sitting in the sun. Rough job but I made it thru. Just love to watch those jets.

It sucks chasing the dollars but a necessary evil......

Need a Payment Recovery Specialist? I have tools for that job. :D

Today, I carried mom to the doctor, and went back to my high school to request a transcript for the Apprentice School. I got to look through permanent records, only to not find mine in any of the possible filing cabinets.

Flying Sunday for Seafair hydro races. Pretty much performed full show for a small audience. Sunday will have huge crowd. Yea here in Seatle.

Now I have to go out to the overly hot garage and put a big bore kit on my 046 because I need another saw in the a.m. Wish me luck!

I dont go too many people. Plus I work Friday thru Monday. Just go watch the practice every year without the crowd.

OK, I screwed up. I put the rings on upside down and kept trying to put the jug on the piston to no avail. I ended up cracking one of the rings and now I'll have to call Baileys for another set of rings. I wish I had figured out the orientation a bit earlier. My MS440 is going to have to cut some big wood tomorrow.

It was hotter than a mo**er fu**er today, but I was able to pull off 4.5 hrs. of site time. $570 job that's gonna end up taking me 3 days to complete, but the RENT will get paid ! Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!

It was only 80 here today...:P

Devon... the 044 will do fine I'm sure. Do you have it set up with a Dual port muffler or anything? Or is it a bone stocker?

My 044 sees a 32" bar sometimes and it always has a 28" bar on it.
