It's always fun watching the critters that have only been here since spring when I start the fire. VS the older ones. Our Bengal sees fire and gets excited. But not her first rodeo. The newbs are like huh????

Remnant cat-repelling fire bricks that need to be put in the stove as replacements.

I'm not at my house that much, so I haven't gotten to the project, yet.

I actually think my idea of the heat retention mass is a good one...maybe I'll stack some cinder blocks on mine . I'm sure M will love that idea .

I've got a dozen fishplate bolts from BNSF stood on my stove as a heat sink. There's a good bit of iron, so they hold heat well, and they're stood in the output of the jacket

They do look like hell in that light, and so does my stove. I am overdue for oiling though...

I really want to add a bigger fan on mine, i did a temp check on the heated air and the temperature difference was enough that if i moved more air it would pump out even more heat.

I have historic red bricks on top of mine. I had picked them up on jobsites, and that was a good use for them. It adds a little thermal mass. Not sure how big a deal that is the grand scheme, but it isn't nothing. What I like is I can rearrange them for different heating zones to warm things on the stove. From direct contact to steel, to two bricks high. I've got something for everything.
