Whats blooming?

Finally remembered to bring my camera to the woods.
Here is another goodlooking pest.
Allium ursinus...........I don't know the english name, but a literal translation from latin would be bear leek or bear garlic.

We have thought of harvesting it in the forest I take care of, but it is really labour intense, and you only have like a week or two to do it in.

When I worked in Switzerland, all the restaurants featured dishes with it, like bear garlic ravioli, when it was in season.

Couple of pics from walking round my garden at the weekend :)

Anyone know what the pine is? Its not a UK native and has cones about 8-9" long and is 3 needled (9-12" long). Will post some more pics if needed.

Richard.

Looks like pondersoa pine to me

Annuals are just being put into the beds at MSU- Bottineau and the International Peace Garden where I am working for the summer. Had frost warnings two nights this week and also may get some snow on Friday or Saturday night in the NW part of state. Isn't spring swell!!

Put my annuals and tomatoes in two weeks ago - too early. Had to cover them all 4 times since due to temps in the low thirties. And that's right here in the city. Outlying areas had frosts.

Sounds like too much cone for a pondo... Maybe Jeffreys?

Just measured a newly fallen cone 5" with backward facing spikes on it - does sound like pondo from my id book.

We have just moved in to the house. When we looked around last year I took home a cone that was 9". This was perhaps just a one off!

Thanks for your help CSV/Willie.

Richard.

Took a look about some pondos today and I guess they can throw some about like that size in some cases. I found one at almost 8 inches for a cone.... Mostly see smaller up here. Willie's probably right ...

It's one of those in between stages for the flowers .The irises, daffodiles etc are done blomming and the day lillies haven't started yet .

The peonies made their memorial day appearance as they always do and are done ,the roses should be along shortly .

The garden went in on memorial day and should be comming along around the middle of August for tomatoes, cucumbers etc .

Not blooming, but the cherries are in!
Best harvest we've ever had.
This last week everybody we know have been by to pick their fill.
As one guy said: " you guys sure have a lot of friends, when the cherries are ripe!"
Nice to be able to make a lot of people happy at no cost to myself.
Seeing all the kids gorge themselves on cherries, sure make my day.

The wild flower bloom is petering out on the coast, but a few patches still linger. Dang I should have got out earlier to catch the Iris and Lupin.
