Oh, I thought you mean flatAgreed. The one in your vid is unusual but adding a vertical kerf kinda makes sense

um, did we already just cover this or is this a solid addition to concept of no-face felling
Because he is using a pushing chain, top of the bar, which ejects chip better, less chance of it binding.Extra large hooks for support. And they are not used at all)
How do you mean? The top bar/bar tip thing also self feeds the saw.
I screwed it up. I figured the more the merrier but in hindsight, 5 is too wide/thick/rigid. Also extra brittle wood. Pics and vids to follow. Had a pretty good lab session yesterday.@davidwyby
to add... you may (likely will) cut off part of a hinge, all of a hinge, part of two hinges, all of a hinge.
IDK which if any face-cut type might work best. If I was trying get the most, (currently sitting in the recliner) I would consider a full-gap face, with the caveat---beware spiral grain.
Unless the root flare holds the veneer log-end together until its at the mill. Now he has dirty root flare to cut off.
@SeanKroll this is the one I think I messed up by making too many hinges, too thick overall. But also the grain was a mess, spiral going across the hinge plates.
