I sure miss that granny gear and that particular tranny that ol truck had. I have the C6 in my 80. That '72 was not good for past 65 but man o man could she pull. The C6 in these hills leaves a tad to be desired. I am hoping a new 4 barrel progressive holley might change that a tad. Brown only has a 2bbl right now.

The 360 sure was a gutsy engine. No reason they had it geared so 65 was top speed. Ford has a problem with getting truck gearing right. It shouldn't be all that hard to figure out. We had a '68 3/4 ton with a 300 straight six in it. 65 was top end for it too. Then the Ranger I have with the 4 cyl. you have a hard time getting into O.D. Come on Ford, get with it.

I couldn't find a better shot of my old truck, I think I lost a lot of photos somewhere. It's a 1968 IH Loadstar 1800. I bought it with 4,427 miles on it. Needs a paint job, and I've got a better body for it. Considering there was no payment plan on this rig, I made a good bit of money with it. Today, it would cost about $.90/mile in fuel.

Should be able too. I can hit myself with the grapple when standing on the controls. I know this because I've done it. You really gotta wrap your head around the controls station when the boom is behind you

I don't think so. The dude I bought it from used to load a southco box with full roof with it.

Here is my old pride and joy. How about a 1965 Mercury M800 3 ton? May look a little rough, has been parked for 10 yrs now. This is the "after photo" from 5 yrs of driving in the bush knocking down small trees along the way like a skidder. Driving up to a stand of birch I then cut and load 2 cords of firewood blocks, go deliver and dump it to customers in cottage country and then go back for a 2nd load. I did this almost every day before going to work lumber grading on afternoon shift at the company sawmill.
Only a few yrs before I was replaced by a processor when I was a faller, got transferred to the mill but couldn't stay out of the bush. After this firewood gig I quit the mill and started my own tree service. I never want to touch firewood again.
The old Merc has a 391 -4bbl, 5 speed ,split Eaton axle and double frame. I put tire chains on her when the snow hit the ground.Tough truck .

No. The deck is just a hollow frame currently (see pic). I sold the dump trailer, and opted for this.

Could easily turn it into a dump in the future, who knows but I'm surely hanging onto it.

Its a sweet trailer, are you going to make a floor and some sides for it?

The boom is worth more than the dump.

I'm in between for a floor. I think I am going to go with a 1/2 or 3/4 wood floor ( just want to be light as possible), definitely a spot for the mini in front, and those random lengths. I am going to re-do the outer rail. Instead of round tube I'll go square stakes so I can add difference sides (maybe solid or whatever), plus three more stakes on each side, again for those shorter lengths. I won't carry a stake for each pocket, just be able to move them around as needed. Add a rub rail and a couple more winches and I'll be good.
