Official Guns Thread

We seldom experiance ammo shortages in Europe. Sometimes primers can be difficult to get for a few weeks but thats it.

I passed my annual shooting test yesterday. We have to fire 35 shots per weapon for score if we want to hunt big game.

Air rifle is pretty fun, and you can shoot in suburbia without going anywhere. I have a .177 Beeman break barrel I haven't shot in forever. I should clean it up, and take it out.

35 shots? I don't have that many rounds in a single loading for my hunting rifle. I just got it this year (savage axis II 6.5 Creedmoor) , during the shortage craziness. I searched around to find find a box of this, a box of that, etc.
Last year and a half jump started my gun collection, bought a Sig p365xl, then my Creedmoor, then a Henry frontier .22, I put an Athlon neos scope on it with a Rimfire BDC reticle and that gun is a hoot!

Thats unfortunate.

I buy .22 ammo on special and centerfire reloading components in bulk. Gunpowder is fairly inexpensive over here at aproximately $50 for 2.5 pounds.

There is still alot of 7.62X51,9X19 and 8X57 surplus ammo around.

I remember when I lived in the states we bought 7.62X39 for $99 per 1000 rounds and shoot it all off in an afternoon.

Great fun!

Here is my 1930s small ring mauser. It has 70% engraving with some gold inlay , double set triggers and a greener stylr side safety catch. It was built by Wolf in Austria, maybe coming to Norway with a German officer during the war.

Sometime in the 90s it was rebarreled and recknagle open sights and swing off mounts were installed. It is a beautiful Rifle which I am proud to own.

Last week I shot two Reindyr with it on a 7 day backpack hunt in the mountains.I had to carry about 170# 15 miles back to the car.

I went out hunting with a mate again. We found a flock of about 500 animals just a couple of hours walk in.

After a bit of a stalk using the sporadic fog as cover, we were 200m from the flock.

I shot one, he shot another. The flock turned , a shot presented itself at a big buck so I shot it.

This is not North American size but for Europe its a big deal.Another hunter happened across the flock ,shooting two of them. He mentioned he had a landing permit for a Helicopter so the animals were flown out along with our packs.

Such a luxury compared to last time! We were prepared for a 4 day backpack hunt thst ended up with us being home the same day we left.

There's only 1 herd of them left?

Kind of.

There are alot of Reindyr in Scandinavia but those are either domestic or domestic free range.

This herd of about 10,000 animals is comprised of many flocks. The area they live in is approx 5000 square miles.

These are the last truely wild Reindyr, their numbers have to be controlled in order to keep the ecosystem up there in balance.

There is evidence dating back 8000 years of hunting these herds. Its a tradition as old as time.

Oh no, i was actually thinking i hope they are still hunting them, sportsmen are by far some of the most environmentally driven people out there, and have singlehandedly saved many species from extinction. Their wetlands work is incredible, bringing back whole ecosystems again.
