Hiking Thread

I've been taking it easy the last few days, higher 90's and humid is not to be taken lightly, especially when that's not the norm for us. Missed the trail altogether yesterday. Today I was back on the interval training. Beat my numbers again, and it seemed to take less effort. I just hope I don't meet someone running around a corner. I'll end up on the news as a sasquatch sighting for sure.

Why not go early to beat the heat

sasquatch like you already up by 5 at the latest.

I missed getting to the trail most of last week. Made it back Saturday, and it was a struggle. Monday and Tuesday were a little better. Today was a huge improvement. Not a PR, but good. I ran (jogged?) longer than I ever have. I actually ran through the first high intensity interval, through the rest period, and then through the second high intensity interval. It's good to see tangible improvements. Makes it easier to keep it up. The running part is getting smoother, too. It's not like floating, but also not like a freight train running into a bridge abutment, either. :/:

* Perhaps my hiking stuff should get moved into it's own thread? Leave this thread for actual hiking content.

What do you suppose the Nature Conservancy's policy is on leaf blowers? :/: The trail is covered in leaves and small ankle-twisting sticks that are covering up the roots and rocks. Seems only polite to strip it to bare earth with the BR800C.

Makes sense to me.

I was up against the same issues on the trail this AM and as a matter of fact cut my bare foot at the arch :big-bat: :rockhard: ⭕|:

Not quite the same, but one of my big piss offs is curlex on job sites. The stuff sticks to boot tread, and it hides ground defects so it's easy to screw yourself up. That shit should be banned.

Shoes/boots were developed to counter this risk :D.

Indeed.

Going barefoot reminds one in a most clear and immediate way of the benefits of good footwear. A rubber sole is a protective barrier that even a lifetime of callus building can't equal.

But bare footing also has pluses to it that shod travel can't match.

So a middle ground is likely best.

I was reminded of one today when I drove 40 minutes one way to pick up my repaired chipper (top feed wheel axle broke), I wore moccasins with no socks and my feet sweat alot if they aren't bare foot or sandaled.

I've had the chance to get to the trail a few times lately. A lot of storm damage. KatanaBoy was a bit small, so I packed the 395XP in for over a mile. Met a guy walking a dog. He gave me a funny look, but clearly thought better of saying something to a sasquatch with a big chainsaw over his shoulder. Wise choice.
