Owyhee River and Hell's Canyon camp/hike.

M and I returned last week from about 10 days over in far eastern Oregon. Mighty pretty places.

Here's some pictures from the Owyhee country. I'll tell you, that is some pretty far out in the deep boonies high desert canyon lands. Good place to go if you like to be all by yourself. Make sure your rig is in good condition, and fill the fuel tank every chance you get .

No kidding, Kevin. I was bumfuzzled. M and I speculated endlessly on what sort of recreational flying, and to what sort of places, having a small helo could allow one.

The way it was sealed in that white stuff, my guess is it was in storage and being transported for some reason. He couldn't just pull into an airport and fly it like it was. It takes a lot of work and maintenance to get that stuff off and make it air-worthy. It may not even have had an engine... just the airframe.

That's how they seal aircraft for storage.

Sorry, but perhaps you don't know much about the subject. I worked many contracts with small helicopter ops with the USFS, and that is a normal travel setup for backwoods helo ops.

That cover is just for transport. He doesn't need an airport to fly off of. He can just unhitch the trailer, remove the covers, lower the blade supports, attach the gear pods, and lift off. Seen it done many dozens of times.

The canvas cover is only over the front half of the bubble, to keep road spray damage off. The only other covers are on the blades and exposed collectives above the body; same issue with road spray, and they are the only really sensitive parts of the exposed machinery.

This is a traveling rig for private helo flights at the whim of the pilot. Wish I had those chops.
