Another fine looking machine.

Any advantage to a fixed thumb over a hydraulic thumb, except I presume they are cheaper to buy?
 
Kobelco are the shit. I used to have an 11.5 tonner, with zero tail swing. Fantastic machine. Then I had a 14 tonne hitachi Zaxis with ultra short tail and short booms. That thing would turn 360 inside its own track width, and outlift a 20 tonner with long booms. This JCB has a standard tail, but is just on the limit of what I can put on an 8x4 rigid truck (my next big purchase...)
 
Good stuff! Yeah, Hitachis look like good machines.

How does Cat stack up? Good but pricey?
 
Pretty common to see Kobelco equipment available at lease places in these parts. Korean machinery for farmers is big now, cheaper than the locally made.
 
There was a thread on them, at some forum. I think they were between 2.5-3k.

I never thought of building one, but def doable with the new metal burner i have. Hmmm
