Finally got around to fixing the eye splice that got loose at the cross over point, and I finally got a dsplice soft fid, made it so much easier.
took it apart, reset the cross over point nice and even, and finished the splice, just need to whiplock it and its all good.

11.7 Donaghys Cougar.

Thank you Burnham, if there was anything wrong that you could see, I am happy for correction and learning, thats why I posted up the pics.

I am far from a splicing expert and have only a little personal hands-on experience with the art and craft of it. But I have looked closely at a very large number of splices in my 5 decades of rope work, by both pros and amateurs.

I see nothing at all to give me the slightest doubts about your work, from the pictures you posted.

What splicing directions did you use, the core bury looks longer than needed? The core bury can be made easier by reducing it by half for a couple of inches more than the bury length.

Earlier splices I have done, were following the sampson guide with a short fid length.
I had seen others that used a full fid, so the core bury on the above blue couger line was a full fid, with more taper at the end, than the 4 strands removed as per the sampson guide, the outer bury was as per sampson guide with their taper.
Had seen other climbers yt vids where they used a full fid, or near that for core bury, so followed that this time.
Appreciate your thoughts.

I noticed that too. Would be good for light rigging, but that size looks like it's treading in whoopie territory.

I call it the chode. 5 feet long.
Great for small stuff, timber hitch or lazy cow hitch, clove hitch, bowline…
Great for Double whipping small tops…. Or anything really

I gave it to a friend on Oahu.

Tenex is super easy to splice.
I decided to start splicing after I saw what they were charging.

Exploring the 3 strand splice world. Had some stuff floating about and bought some 1/2" Tree Master. Steve Hansen gave me some stuff.. made a couple 16 or 18 foot flip lines. I have always been a big fan of a three strand flip.line. Ive had some made of 5/8ths with tight eyes that Ive loved. Worn them out. I have some friction saver ideas I want to explore. So these are my testing grounds. One with an eye, one a crown knot. Normally I have eyes on both ends. But I was temporarily out of more hardware. So stopper knot for now. So far, its a win for me. I'll try the frictionsavers I want next. Then a 5/8ths 20 footer. 20250110_090309.jpg 20250110_090303.jpg

Nice job. Looks a lot better than my treemaster splices, especially my ⅝". I made a flipline, and it looks like ass. It's more than strong enough for that purpose, so I called it good enough after my third attempt(an eye on each end, and one I took out and respliced), but I've been thinking about a round 4 to try to do it better.

I put a Gibbs on one, and the Petzl Micrograb on the other. My Macro is on my 5/8ths cable core.
I used the Micro grab in case Kavey wants to try it. His little 1/2 inch cable core has a 2 way grab (about the same size grab) I detest it. I showed him why. I have let him use my small positioning lanyard with Edelrid steel clip, Ocean prussik and pulley tender. Every flip line or lanyard I sport can be tended one handed.
