We have only had about three inches this last time Dave. Lucky I guess....but been below zero with 20 below wind chill.

If you ever decide to repel the hoards whilst riding a pig let me know Stig. I will ride with you!

Well we got a bit more today. Made a few of the right phone calls at lunch and got the job shut down for the day. Poor visibility and being 50' off of a 45 mph intersection got the county safety guys thinking the project could be put off another day. I told my boss that I left my pen in my shirt pocket and it froze so I couldn't fill out the paperwork if on of the flaggers got run over. It's kinda upsetting because I really wanted to finish the job tomorrow. Highs Thursday are supposed to be single digit and I really don't like having guys flagging traffic when it gets that cold.

6 degrees and these poor folks burned their straw (yes, bales of straw, I'll huff and I'll puff. . . ) hose down. Took us 45 minutes and had to cut down 3 trees to get the pumper out of what they'd driven it into. . .

Thanks Gary, there was a second residence on the same lot. Same construction, and the tyvek was starting to melt. So there was some benefit. . . It's a bummer when poor folks loose everything. . .

Basically. Well. . . exactly. Metal roof and some kind of plaster on metal mesh inside. Collapsed real fast.

I guess it has been up for almost 20 years. . .

IF the plaster is intact, no access to the straw for mice. Keeping the plaster intact and the straw dry is critical.

The Reservation to the south of me has a machine that makes CEB, or compressed earth blocks.

They are using CEB to build low cost homes for the tribe.

Rammed-earth is another similar deal. Make a structural wall, cover it with plaster and paint. Pour dirt in a tire, hit it with a sledgehammer.

I stayed out in this Earthship community at a guy's house for a week, back in the day, outside Taos, NM. He was renting. It was a million dollar type property with about 40 acres, leading to the gorge. Partially finished guest house. Pretty sweet setup. The guy was a painter. A lot of artists in Taos.

One of my favorite memories was when my daughter caught her first fish. It was a little fish, probably only 9 or 10 inches long....a rainbow trout.

I asked her if I could throw it back, seeing how it was quite small, just a teenager I says.

She said no, I want you to hit it on the head with a rock and cut its guts out. I want to eat it for lunch.

Sounds terrible I guess, but I was proud as hell.

I guy in town buys them for the hides, if not him I will take it to the town over west and sell it.

i could take it to my friend to get tanned. Could give it to Richard boy that way.
