Might have been just a bad day, but I doubt it. I have been supremely manipulated by customers before, thinking that we had a good relationship. Take, take, take, until I pushed back a little. Then I was the asshole.

I have to deal with quite a few people during the week, but nothing like Arborists. I would have a tough time dealing with folks like most of you have to do on a daily basis.

This may be a commie thing, but I find 99,9% of the people I deal with to be pleasant.
The 0,1% is usually just misguided about how to treat trees.
1½ month ago I did an emergency job for a kindergatrden, cutting a broken spruce top out, before it could fall on some kids.
They didn't pay the bill, so Yesterday I swung by and gave them a copy and explained that they hadn't paid up.
Those people were so genuinely upset over the fact that they'd forgotten my bill, that it almost made me feel bad for bringing it up.
Almost.

Jim really, it's no big deal, think of the jobs like teachers, coppers, call centre operators etc. Who really have to deal with the public at their worst

Sure would be easier and wayyyy more efficient on multiple trips to just leave the mini on site extracting longs while I unload the trailer at the yard.......

No they just sit around watching porn all day till the age of 45 when the pull the old bad back thing and get full pay till they die. Or something.
Idk about the porn but otherwise that's the way it is in my town, except 2 weeks before they retire at 45, they also get promoted to the next rank up thus giving greater lifetime pension.
They cook a lot too. And some are forced to go to the YMCA while on duty and walk around the block for exercise.

Yep. If all the training requirements are met than you can retire in 20 years and the State pays. I want to say you get like 75 bucks a month. Maybe 100, not sure. We also have a private fund that is managed by the firemen that kicks in too when you retire. That is at 75 dollars now.

It was decent enough today. County had a meeting with the utility companies just beyond our work zone and of course all eyes were on us. It's like they're waiting to see you screw up. Bunch of nerve racking sob's. Glad my crew did good cause the other crew had really bad timing. Blew a tire on the stump grinder right as the DOT cop was passing them on the highway. Pulled over and inspected all three vehicles in the little convoy. I'm pretty sure we bought a small stretch of highway today

Saw mill has been VERY busy Dave. We can't sell the wood though.
There are a bunch of regulations that we would have to comply with.
We WILL charge an hourly to rough cut lumber for people that have a log they would like done...

So alll that flammable shat they need to get rid of just came to a screeching halt. Well at least slowing it down.
Can't sell or trade the wood with out the proper paper trail. They are looking and will fine you.
I will be one of the speakers at the local counsel meeting about the logistics of material handling and the costs involved.

They are going under the guise of "doing what is best to not spread the beetle/wood transport". But that is definitely NOT all it is about. The forester marking the unhealthy trees for removal as well will help slow it down considerable. They often get missed because the HO does not want to part with any trees. But to say that ONLY a certified forester can assess the diseased trees is bull.
The fact that ANY logging company is yet to handle the slash as they want is bull... If it does not get burned or chipped by summer, it sets, no tarp or plastic until next winter more often than not.
Our state is broke, and they are using every means necessary to land revenue.
And let's be real, there is no way possible to rid our brown hills of all these dead trees fast enough.
If lumber prices were better and they would let selective thinning happen, we might have a chance at slowing it down. But good luck with that.

Play the game Stephen, only costs about 200 bucks to get your Certified Forester through SAF. Get that on lock and your free game on all that dead. Would probably give you a nice jump on the competition. I plan on getting mine this spring for future project work.
