How'd it go today?

Trying to diagnosis/resolve a cooling issue with my 2015 Golf. It looks like the electric water pump/thermostat is one unit @$250-$375. I'm also just hearing about something called vacuum filling of the cooling system. Exciting! Do we have a sarcastic smiley?

I've been on facebook for over 10 years, only used marketplace the last 3 or 4, had one or two good experiences and hundreds of hours of wasted time, I should start an "idiots of FB marketplace" thread somewhere lol

I know some Jags had rear brakes inside the rear axle.
The mechanical stuff can make you crazy...but it is the electronics will drive you absolutely insane :D. When this stuff works, it is amazingly good, but when it does not the diagnostics of point of electrical failure, and some fiddly mechanicals, can be frustrating.

Jags built in the 50's-early 90's were the worst. Late 90's to late 2000's were the best for reliability, though still can be a challenge...and that's the era my XKR is from. I really haven't looked into the subject with the current offerings, as cars that cost more than houses are somewhat beyond my means :).

I don't own shit. House behind my parents (part of the farm until early 90's) $4.5 million last year. Not a very nice ranch $1.2 million first day on the market last year. It's ridiculous.

I guess I understand. Not your property per se. Still in your mother's name I suppose?

This is an open forum, no further discussion needed. Apologies Dave, if I got too personal.

got the call today "you remember this tree? yeah it broke" "you mean the one I've been saying needs to come down, every time I'm at your house, for the last 4 years?" "yeahhh that one"

well, theres tomorrows job! supposed to be a no cleanup but we will see, gonna be a massive pile of brush for a no cleanup

Don’t ya love it when no one listens? Those jobs kinda validate my expertise though.

The old 650tx lives! Starter was fine. I finally found my book so I could find the starter relay. $25 part and it fired right up after sitting for 10 months. Now to pull the pump to get the bell housing off. The pump bolts into the housing stripped out. Hoping to find a local company to fill and re tap the holes. If not I’ll get the lube out and order a new one. While it’s apart I’ll do the motor mounts. No rest for the wicked.
Going to get a shower and head off to get choked out again.

good thing this customer is a friend because there was no reply I could come up with that was professional, just "told ya so, dumbass, cya tomorrow"

he's a good sport

ah this reminds me of my boxer, rear mount holes were stripped out, engine fell out a few times, eventually made new mounts that go to the bellhousing instead of the block, never had another issue, I think I still have the old mounts somewhere

any welder should be able to, unless its cast iron then just bend over because you most likely aren't going to get that welded up successfully

35 hours on the Giant, attachment plate was made out of playdough? plate was cast looking at the surface finish, might try to find out if its cast iron or steel, if its steel I will probably let it wear down some more and hardface it, I could get real fancy and TIG some tool steel or something on there, but I think even just some 7018 will do better than whats on it currently lol 1744157576330.png

@WoodCutr
I’d attempt it myself or take it to a weld shop except I forgot to mention it’s aluminum. I have a place two and a half hours away that specializes in aluminum fab and repair. I’m hoping to find someone closer. I’ll make some calls tomorrow and sort it out

My ‘62 XKE was a thrill to drive (2 to 3 days a week, and worked on it the other 4 to 5 days 🤣). The whole idea of brakes in close to the rear differential was to reduce unsprung weight to keep the tires in contact with the road better…

Thread inserts might be an option. Depending if there is room. I never used them but they look much better than helicoils.
