How'd it go today?

John why don't you lone him your spare. You could come up with a rental program and ship it around to the members. I'm just thinking out loud!

got some wind last night

I slept through it and my boss was kind enough to do the recon alone (wind came through at 4:30-5:00) When I got to work at 6:45 there were over a dozen calls. One of these days I'm gonna buy a cheap digital camera so I can share the beauty of destruction I get to witness:)

Worked like a dog all day in the heat, home now, high life flowin.....

.....

I've owned a couple, the Canon Powershot SD750 is my current and most favorite. Very good, sturdy pocket camera that takes great pictures. My previous Olympus and Samsung cameras had lousy picture quality in comparison.

I went to a workshop by Chris Luley today. Talked alot about decay and different decay fungi. Also walked around in groups testing trees with a mallet, a drill, and a resistograph. Kind of demo'ed the whole process and talked about options, limitations, and when we should say :\:

It was fun. I liked the resistograph, but holy hell $5500!! We have another half day tomorrow with another speaker.

What's the second picture? Poor man's Reisto?

Lets recap my day.

Start at 730, we head to a job I ground yesterday to clean up the deck/house where a 1" hydrualic hose blew, thus throwing hydro oil everywhere.

Now we head to the hose place to get a new hose made for the mini grapple which blew yesterday on D, my truck, the customers landscapers truck, and the concrete. I drop it off and head right down the street to fix a busted water line.

I'm working on it when I realize I forgot an elbow, thus requiring a trip back home to get another.

On the way back to the water pipe, I swing by the hose place and the ticket isn't ready. What seems like 15 minutes later (took them forever to measure off 12' of spiral wrap and figure the ticket) I'm out the door for under $70.

We get back to the water pipe, I've got it nearly finished, and I'm pressing in the last piece (glued on both ends). I'll be damned if the elbow didn't crack (that's a first), thus making me an elbow short, again. I send D back to get another elbow and a spare :). He gets back, I get it wrapped up in 5 minutes, reset the meter box.

Now it's 11:15 and D's been griping about being hungry for the past three hours. We head across town and eat at Mi Torro, conviently located next to a bank that we needed to visit.

We get to the job I was planning( the morning before) on being at 8. It's now 12:30. I drop the outriggers on the man lift, go up dropping little sprouts/limbs. 5 minutes into that I hit a massive honey bee nest. Holy hell, so I swing over and make one hell of a mess of the smaller tree, come down and go get spray and 8 cases of water for mother dearest.

Anywho, day drags on, I cut my thumb (not bad) we finally quit around 5:30. I bought D supper and we headed home after getting me an Under Armor shirt to try out. Why did I buy him supper? Because all our running around was in my Civic instead of the 1 ton (leaving the 1 ton on that side of town until Sat afternoon). Furthermore, we worked all of 4.5 hours on that job and should be raking it up by 2pm tomorrow. The job was bid to take the better part of Friday as well.

In other words, today went GREAT. I only had to change shirts once :)

Carl, your posts make me sooooooo glad that I don't have a tree service business. All that running around fixing stuff and juggling schedules would drive me bonkers. :)

Ha I'm loving it. Today was a great day. The running around like that in my 1 ton (1.7 miles per $1 in gas burned) would piss me off. In my Civic (17 cents per 1.7 miles) it's nothing. Plus, I didn't bring the truck home today (20 miles or so each way) or tomorrow, or Friday. Adds up to about 120 miles of driving saved, or about $55 in fuel savings and 6 less tires getting worn.

Put my new lowering line to work today. Coulda used one of John's GRCS's but made due anyways. Hopefully the homeowner comes through with some pics like they said they would. Two good sized firs over a lada dee da flower bed and five little poplars in the mix as well. Used the biggest fir as a spar to rig the little one off and then but hitched the bigger one down. Did it that way as this made the swing away from the house. Everything went smooth as silk and I got a good load of firewood out of it too. Good, fun day.

finished my bradf-ck pear job.

I have not thought for a long time that any one tree I could hate. Need someone to loan me some TNT or a machine gun to take to those.

This reminds me of the first episode, first season of the Sopranos when Tony is reciting his day to his Psychiatrist.:)

I think the picture could be clearer, better and I don't like the 3 or 4 sec lag between pics. If there's a way to fix that I haven't cyphered it yet.

There are a few things you can do to make it take less time between shots. For instance, if you have it set to show the picture you just took (I can't remember the term) it slows it down. You can also set it to take many shots without 'clicking' again....

All my pictures lately are from that camera, PM me if you want me to try and help.

Today was eventful, if nothing else. First job was a big declining 36" dbh laurel oak removal. 90% dead and it had been trimmed/ deadwooded last year so there wasn't much left of it. But there was a bee's nest in the trunk so I decided to just brush it out and flop the trunk from the ground rather than cut into the nest while in the bucket. Had it ready to flop in about an hour. Flopped the trunk and promptly walked over to untie my rope, completely forgetting about the bees. Well, they didn't forget about me! Before I knew it, I was covered in very angry bees. I ran off and thought I had them all brushed out of my hair and off my shirt, but I kept hearing them buzzing. Finally took off my shirt and there were 6 bees stuck on the back of it, still trying to sting it. More bees kept coming up and attacking my shirt so I left it and grabbed a spare out of the truck.

Larry went to the store for bee spray but it wasn't doing any good. I abandoned my rope for the time being and left it on the log. The bee guy came out and quoted $300 to kill them, he's coming back tonight at dusk. I'll go back this weekend to cut up the trunk and retrieve my rope.

Second job was a bit of a drive but an easy removal. Broke a main irrigation line that was routed over the root flare at the base of the tree. Had to shut off the water at the meter. Looked like an easy fix, just 1" pvc.

Took my truck to the tire store to get an alignment because it pulls to the right and my left front tire is wearing on the inside. They told me it needs wheel bearings and kingpins (due to lack of greasing, thanks Entergy Corp.) and they will need the truck for 1.5-2 days. I still have two days unscheduled next week so I'll bring it in next Wednesday. Estimated cost $1400-$1500.

My pickup is still in the shop, should be ready this afternoon. Getting the driveshaft balanced to try and reduce the horrendous vibration at 65-70 mph. My mechanic noticed it when he was test driving my truck for another issue and it's bothered me ever since I bought the truck, so I was happy to let him fix it. Much easier than trying to explain the problem to somebody while they give you the blank stare.

I have an appointment in 15 minutes at the eye doctor to get my eyes checked. I think I'm about due for reading glasses. My arms aren't long enough for me to read the newspaper any more. I'll be back in an hour. ;)

My vision is finally clearing up from the dilation eyedrops. Doc said I could get glasses if I wanted, although drugstore reading glasses would work fine for now.

The back of my head hurtz from da bee stings. Just call me Lumpy.

That 'lil forgetful thing with the bees is just how I got my foot crushed. For a moment I forgot that the sling was gonna slip, and that's all it took. Ouch!
