How'd it go today?

Rich, you just flushed the core with water?
I did my son's S10, just 2 hoses going into the firewall. A garden hose with a spray nozzle, flushed both directions, through the inlet to outlet and outlet to inlet. Lotta brown chunks came out and toasty now.

No. I just removed the housing surrounding it and used the air compressor to blow out the chip dust. Didn’t actually flush the core. Just cleaned out the fins like I do a radiator. Anything in the tree business builds up sawdust or chipper dust. Just needs a quick clean out once in a while. Our international trucks are the worst for clogging up but also the easiest to clean. The gmc’s and chevys are the opposite. They are harder to access and to do a good job they should be removed. That wasn’t in the cards today. It will have decent heat but not great. Better than it was at least. I’ll have to flush them once it warms up a bit. To cold to want to use water for anything at the moment. Shop is uninsulated so it still sucks even with a torpedo heater running

I just walked off a job that had signs on the porta pots warning the junkies not to throw their needles in’em and narcan in the office trailer. Not gonna work around them trashy bastards.

+20.

Leave while the leaving is good. Sounds like they could fold soon of their own accord.

Lol Bob you are supposed to drag when it starts getting cold, not wait till feb! I hear you man, eff that.

Bank sign read 1˚F, but "cold" doesn't even describe it. Diesel was gelling up in all the trucks & machines. I poured a diesel can into the chipper and it looked like cloudy corn syrup. Bucket truck is gas and it fired up, but no go on the log truck or the chipper. Boys cut losses and did maintenance & estimating. I went out in the afternoon and ground 2 stumps. Better to make some $$$ than none at all! When I got back in the pickup, I had to take off my shoes and count my toes to make sure they were all still there -- couldn't feel anything down there!

Tomorrow will be above freezing for the high, Friday will be almost 50˚F!

Tomorrow's fun: we have a 6' DBH white oak near the Kansas/Missouri line, 1 hour + drive. Going to roll out all the iron for that one!

Yup, bought a gallon yesterday and distributed it into all the machines! One station in town sells winterized diesel, too. Probably fuel up there today when we roll out for good measure.

I know you are a warm weather local but you really need to be running antigel before it gets this cold. It will take you a bit of running to purge the lines and injectors. I run a tank of antigel when it starts to dip into the 40's and every other tank until the 20's then it's every tank but I run a weaker mix of whats rated on the bottle.

Mick, WV is #1 in the US and my county is #3 in the state. The manufacturers here have to bus people in from out of state to get drug free workers. This has been a blue state forever. These fools know they can collect welfare and stay high instead of earn a living and get by just fine, Uncle Sugar (the taxpayers) will keep warm and fed. It’s embarrassing as hell.

That's some crazy stuff Bob. We have plenty of drug addicts around it seems too, I have not much empathy for them.

I'm finishing up my drywall repair from my bit of floodage from my old dishwasher. Man I hate drywall. Sanding, mudding, i don't have the patience for it. Grinds on me.

HUGE 6'+ DBH bur oak (80+ foot canopy) takedown today, rolled out all the iron: chip truck w/18" chipper, log grapple truck, and the bucket truck. The tree was on the back edge of a new home lot. Just a foundation there now, back filled and graded down a slope to the tree. Very afraid we were going to get one or both trucks stuck, but ground was frozen when setting up and refroze by the time we were done. Bucket for the cutting, log grapple to hand down the wood to the chipper or onto the truck. Neighbor came by and will take a full truckload of logs for firewood -- yay, save a round trip! 12 hour day -- whew! Down to the main spar, back tomorrow for the rest.
