How'd it go today?

Usually too pissed myself! Got a big digital alarm clock now, just have to open my eyes to see the time, rather than fumble around for the phone.

Took down a decent sized sweet gum today. It was an easy climb but very tight LZ. Spent seven hours on spurs. Getting used to them again though as I've been on them everyday for almost three weeks. My poor bucket truck is an oversized toolbox lately. I got a dozen beanpole pines to remove tomorrow. All need stripped as to minimize damage to undergrowth. I might give the climber in training a chance to do one. We'll see how he likes going straight up 60-70' on something that sways every time you step.

SO far no calls on the storm ... but things are just getting started.
Took the day to run some errands, collect a check, put out a fire and sell more work.
And some time with my kiddos never hurts :)

I had a nice "PNW" day today.
Felling doug fir in relentless rain.
Pretty nasty, but nice to be out in the woods again.
One thing about custom Wesco caulks, when you put them on after not wearing them for a long while, it sure feels like coming home:)

I have anxiety today. Way too much money out on the streets. Not to say its a fortune, but more then I like to see at once. Commercial stuff. Plowing. Once they start trickling back to my mailbox, i will feel better.

Ah, I know that feeling.
We've just had to dip into our bank credit, because we had too much money out with clients.
So I got a bit nasty on the phone last week and now we are flush again.

Actually I didn't get nasty, I just reminded people.
Nasty was for the lawyers that didn't pay up after being reminded 3 times.
I told them that they could expect having their office invaded by a large, dirty extremely pissed off logger, who would not leave untill he had his money.
I also said that I hoped they had good security because a couple of fat boys in uniforms weren't going to be able to escort me out.

Money came in the next day.

Sometimes people just need a friendly nudge:D

Pissed off logger vs fat boys in uniforms...you DO have a wonderful way with words, Stig.

I'd be jailed here if I worded things that way. No one is delinquent. I expected to wait on these things. I was just being a hair on the risky side by allowing too many of these sort of jobs to happen in such a short time frame considering my business size. I'm not Asplundh. Ill be fine, it just rattles my cage a little.

I know you meant a different can of whoop ass Stig... but....

:lol:funny Stephen

Cool August! Can hardly wait to see the finished product.

Got a call from a real estate guy at noon today..."we've taken down what we can but the 40' limbs above the house have me a bit scared, could you come out here?"

Got there to see a ladder leaning against a Silver Maple with all the leads heading away from the house cut off. Thankfully the ladder wouldn't reach the two "center leaders" one of which I could actually use for a TIP.

Spent a couple hours cutting everything I could drop without roping and left the rest for tomorrow when I can get some qualified help on the ground. Guy is all happy.

Bid a job from Hell next: beech/dune neighborhood - roads= steep, twisted, barely one lane, honk before you go around a corner, retaining walls on both sides. When you finally get to the parking area you go up ~60 steps, walk 100 yards down a 30" wooden path past all the neighbors, go through 4' alley w/bushes & stumps between houses and arrive between two decks on the edge of a very steep, long hill and there is the tree between the decks.

Figured the wood removal at about 4-5x the price of taking the tree down...Guess we're doing it in March or April.:|:

August, ask Jerry about that (or those) awesome home made saddles(s) he has; were they comfy/effective?

Did my tall beanpole pines today. Took advantage of the home owner asking me if I was good enough to thread the needle and miss the understory trees he wanted to keep in tact. Wish I had a video, I think I'd of made the fellers proud. Had to strip a couple that leaned to hard to put down in a hole. Had a blast. Took my kids on the local Polar Express tonight and really enjoyed it. It was a beautiful day.

Always good when they hit the lay and you can adda boy yourself a little. :)
Well done

Working on a large private estate about an hour or so drive away, some huge old trees on the estate but we were doing shite scrub clearance, Hawthorn, Blackthorn, underpowered blunt chipper, horrible!

That's the last time I help him out;)
