The Official Work Pictures Thread

Did a real nasty one by the golf restaurant, but no pictures. I was too busy keeping golfers from getting in the way.

That last one was "interesting" gnarly as hell, and half the top had broken out.
We were seriously dubious about being able to wedge it over ( Skid steer was busy otherwere) but in the end went with my call and did it.
Dropped it right where I wanted it. Richard will be hearing about that for a while, since he did not really believe it was possible.
I had decided that I'd make the face cut, and if I didn't have white, clean wood, Get the forwarder.

I had excellent holding wood, right over a root flare, just look at the strength of that hinge.
We were working against quite a bit of side lean, and wind, so a strong, flexible hinge was a must.

Thanks, new one to me, and no wonder.
It is a Mediterranean species.

No lunch. They serve mostly dead animals, you know.;)

Hard to believe you wedged that sucker over looking at the size of the hinge. I have virtually no experience with wedges though as we always have a pull line ...
Nice job BTW

Stig!!!

Hickory shirts in Denmark!!

Oh, MAN, did those shots rock! And Shims! O.k. you're gonna have to be patient, because I'm gonna have about 40 hours of questions for you to answer when I get done mowing my lawn. :X Of course, I'll be paying you a full week's wages for your time. ;)

Btw... Do you get inflammation in your joints from not eating meat? I've recently converted to Orthodox Christianity, (not a creed that you're too sympathetic with, I know...) and we're required to lead a Vegan diet for about six weeks at a time during certain fasts. I was just sympathizing with Mick, because during those "fasts," when I'm on spurs, my knees really feel it. Goes away the moment the fasts are over, and we start eating meat again. My wife's noticed it too. Do you get that??

Is that a 661 or a 660?

The beech slayer.

Gotta love the forwarder idling in the background, ready to make the hard work go away.

Jed, I've never eaten meat, since i was a kid, so no idea what my joints feel like if I do.
That is a 661.

Cory, the forwarder was tied to the pull line via a redirect through a block.
I love having a forwarder on hand.
We cleaned that huge maple in the park up in no time.

Since you were a kid? Was this the practice of your parents, and did they believe it to be healthier?

How do you rate the 661 compared to the 660?

What does this mean in English?
Deyr fé,
deyja frændr,
deyr sjálfr et sama;
ek veit einn,
at aldri deyr:
dómr um dauðan hvern.

My parents were meateaters. I've never liked meat.

661 is way better IMO. Better tourque, less vibrations.........better.

It is the first lines from Hávamál

I don't like the last pic. Reminds me of what parts of the smokies looked like with the hemlock kill. It's just a shame to see that kind of die off

Instead of calling it "deer camp" that would be "pine beatle camp" lol

lots of dead ones there like my area, you probably have more though....

:big-money:pine Beatle:big-money:

Damn, Stephen. That's extensive. Wow.

The Marin Hills looked that when Oaks were dying quickly with the first intro to Phytopthora Ramorum...

I guess....tons of work.

Wow that is sure alot of dead in them there hills. Worst I've seen here is small groves of 15 or 20 trees.
Stig thanks for the pictures if I didn't know better I'd say your living in God's country as the saying goes. Despite your beliefs;)

Stephen, is there any local or state government support to land owners needing to have their dead trees removed? That's a saving grace with our similar looking infestation. Out local government was paying for beetle tree removals, but the money si running out and they will only pay half the costs now up to a certain amount per job, then the funding stops. With what we have here, an apparently healthy looking tree is dead in a year after infestation, and wide spreading, probably pretty much down to the last tree at some point, is a given. Oh yeah, one other saving grace for some, removing those dead ones does guarantee work.

Jay, so far, not much but local agent ies are working on getting funding. So far, only money for brush chipping and fire wood removal. In my local, those grants end i n October. CalFire was helping some, but then all the fires pulled that resource. Plus we really are short on infra structure to handle the materials. Lak
Ck.of.logging companies. Lack of mills. Lack of bioplants. Wood.market is being flooded with pretty much worthless wood. Price on wood is down. A lot of obstacles to overcome.
