I am working again tomorrow, a variety of jobs. Forecast is for -5c but with a bit of wind they reckon it will feel like -10c. It is snowing outside now.

The good thing about the cold is the frozen ground, you can basically do whatever you want and it won't tear stuff up. That and it's easier on the stamina usually.

The trees aren't nearly as thick as they appear. 2" extra thick from moss in places. Smaller rope needed than first thought.

Thinning a few acres of birch that came up after a huge blowdown in 07. Mix of B. papyrifera and B. populifolia, trying to select for paper birch, but they can look damn similar. Good example of how variable paper birch morphology can be, same plant with two hugely different colored stems
