The Official Work Pictures Thread

That tree is going to look fine in a few years, after the pruned limb spots grey over and the bark encloses them. Crown lifts/dead limb prunes on DF of that age always improve the visual effect of the tree...turns them into TREES!

Seems like a lot of your eucs are hacked up. Is that an aesthetic choice, or do big chunks of them die off at once?

There is little, if any, tree education down here. Around town like this I’d say heavy handed pruning.

Out in the country they seem to have limbs die and regen, but those don’t generally get any care or attention so don’t get pruned or cleaned up.

Every pic shown is on srt.
my feeble monkey paw shaka. Someone gifted me the FLOW from notch.
it’s adjustable wrench is kinda nice wasn’t expecting to like it or anything but the original…
however it was nice to adjust so that the hitch barely held me which made breaking the hitch so much easier….
with the wrench seems I’m always just collapsing the whole thing and dragging it behind me…

This lime tree (basswood) was first ‘reduced/topped/started in a pollard cycle’ in 2008 by me.
Its situated in a small courtyard and had branches over the house and was overbearing the property.

The first two pics, with the blue pick up, are of its first repollard in 2015, the second two were this week.
Apologies to those who’ve seen this on other platforms, but every time this sort of work gets posted on here it seems to suprise some US tree guys.

You like doing that kind of work? The two aspects I think about are the quiet low key setting, and straightforward work. The other is the huge mess of little crap that has to be dealt with. Not sure which would win for me.

Is this a scheduled gig where you keep track and come every ~8 years, or do they call you when they want it cut?

Not scheduled as such. They call me when it needs doing or they feel like it, a 9 or 10 year cycle.
At 61 I’m unlikely to be doing it again.
Do I like it?
On a Friday in the sun I like it enough.
Like painting by numbers, easy brain free climbing.
The clear up is not too bad in all honesty.
Clients are pleased, tree is fine, I get paid, finish by 2pm. What’s not to like?

I would imagine it's all smaller stuff that chips easily, i would love that, no material handling equipment needed.

Yea, I've found I'd rather drag one big ass branch than a bunch of little crap. It also gives the chipper something to chew on for awhile while I gather more stuff to stage.

Speaking of pollarding…I don’t care for it when they’re naked…but the mesquites at work I cut back severely last year have exploded back into parking shade….and the wattle tree at my house has grown back and now has hangers, time for it’s haircut too.

Like a 1-2 year cycle vs. 10.

Same. People who make a mess of little stuff drove me nuts. Til I started having trouble with arm joints and stuff. I still stay big if I can handle with eqpt.

I sort of like the look of a good pollard. I prefer virgin trees(or close to it), but a proper pollard is interesting to look at with the bare tree and pronounced knuckles left. If you have a use for the brash, it's cool renewable resource that doesn't take much space to grow.
