@PCTREE
Sounds like you are trying to stay in zone 2 cardio. I hear of many benefits for that particular zone. I ended up with a whoop band and really want to take it to the mtb trail to do a few hours in zone 2. Using the treadmill, zone 2 was higher than I thought! Can’t ride currently due to 12 stitches on my lower leg (cut deep on broken toilet). I know what you mean about recovery. It’s a fine line between enough to force adaptation and too much which causes regression.

Treeaddict, yes Im really trying to get as many hours in zone 2 as possible .. The new guidelines are 80% zone 2 20% intensity. Back in the 80s when I was racing I did the exact opposite and was always overtrained. Could have been a way better cyclist if I had gone easier on myself.
Tommy if its available and in the budget rent an e-bike. They make riding so much more enjoyable and you can cover so much more distance without killing yourself
Pat unfortunately we just got home but I was in Sayulita near Peurto Vallarta. They had miles upon miles of aggricultural dirt roads with next to no traffic and you could find flat rides or mountains.. I took a full suspension MTB and my wife a gravel bike. After 2 days it became apparent that Sams gravel bike wasnt up to the task and was going to jeperdise our relationship !! I rented her an e-MTB with full suspension and big tires and the love returned. Every day by the ocean it was in the 70s, cloudy days I could easily get 5 hours in . Sunny days would sap you as the sun is intense. On one ride we rode over a mountain ridge and down the other side into a valley. On the ascent back it hit 95, I ran out of water and died a thousand deaths on that 2000' climb

I like the gravel bike. Still have a hard time getting used to dropped seat stays.
Looks like you are on the long steady train too !
How are Italian drivers towards cyclists?
Mexicans give you plenty of room and are generally respectfull.
Still to this day my favorite place to ride was Belgium (apart from the weather) . The general public would cheer you on when you were out training

Never ridden a gravel bike before but absolutely loved it. Drivers were brilliant to be fair. Cycle paths were better than the roads in the UK. I wanted to go further but partner was worried her battery wouldn't last on the ebike.
Very quiet roads in general, bet it's chaotic in the Summer though

Its funny , I got an E-mtb about 5 years ago after an accident that I was unsure I would be able to ride again. The ability to dial in your effort requirement was instrumental in my rehab. My wife refers to it as my cheater-bike ! There are a lot of cyclist who object to them but I think they are very useful. Lets face it we ride for enjoyment and for folks that are less strong they enable them to ride with better folks. Not sure if your wife is a cyclist but Im sure you enjoyed having her along

Normally ride on my own but was great having her along with me. I don't think I'm a particularly strong cyclist because I've only been at it for a couple of years but I can hold my own. I dropped from 205 to 167 pounds and didn't lose strength so just go until I'm tired, get a coffee then go again🤣 E bike was definitely more enjoyable for her and she could keep up and I was trying to encourage her to push on and go further but the wine and pizza were calling so I went out for 10km on my own after we got back

Rode the mtb to the trails before work for a quickie since I started later than usual. I’m trying to mostly be in zone 2 but it looks like I pushed too hard. This is the first ride while being able to monitor my pulse. It’s a little difficult because of the real time reporting delay (it lags but I’m not sure by how much yet). Also, looking ahead deters a wreck while looking at a screen almost ensures one.
