Pulling wood out of the brush?

Hey Dave/tntree let me know if you come to Kansas with a mini for Andy.
We can have lunch or supper and a few beers, my treat.... Sound like a plan Andy you get a mini and free food and beer....:)

Nice invite, Thanks Dave! lookin like I'll be headin down your way on Tues. How far are you from Witchita and Andy? It'll be good to see ya again :D

Should meet up with Andy on Weds. You open Weds Day/night?

Nope, Al....

.
kinda the reverse of a speedline, as it is slacked at the last second to slow down the load.....

or tensioned to lift a branch up and around after its been cut, and then let zip to the lz

Prolly a misnomer, me calling it a reverse speed line...but it does pick the load up instead of letting it down.

And it works really well!
Got ya ,makes sense now .

Yeah, yeah, YEA!! I like Wensday!!!! I like it a LOT!!!! Buy a frickin camera though:lol:

We are looking at getting a gas winch for the job .. And of course it can be used for other things ;)
I will add a retrieval line with block just in case.
It's is a lot like yarding in logging. I been researching this for months. We'll use w winch to tension the main line, and I have some ideas on using a good acesnder/adjuster for holding the line if I have to transfer the winch onto the retrieval line :)

Just use a progress capture block/pulley and a beefy, strong prussic. Most cammed devices would get overloaded or be hard on the rope.

One way I've done it with just a Simpson capstan winch is to pretension the mainline with whatever method needed, run the traveling block on it, with a line through it to the load, and then to the winch. This requires a haulback line to apply pressure against the block's forward movement as winching begins. In this way, the load is pulled up to the pulley, then the haulback is slacked as needed to allow the load to advance. It will stay right up against the block as long as the haulback is kept snug (portawrap if needed on it)

Very slick.

I appoligize, I hate cross posting on two forums, but I am not getting much realistic advice elsewhere!

I've lost all my help, except maybe weekends so I am solo. Most jobs it's not so bad, but cutting Oak kills me!!
Used to be myself and a helper and we would bring back two cord. I am trying to figure out a realistic way of doing this solo.
This is sandy soil, not sand, but if it rains you are done!! Think Missouri or Oklahoma.
100 yards is not an unrealistic distance from the tree to the trailer.
I have a trailer for wood ONLY and a truck for anything else, so I am limited. Leaving anything behind is not an option! If they can't steal it, they will break it just so you can't use it. Whatever goes, HAS to come back that same trip!
I have thought of the fourwheeler, I am afraid it would be about useless on the soil, and it's a huge expense. A mini would be asome, but way to cost prohibitive!! As this is woodland a winch on the truck isn't a very realistic option either, no real straight lines, up and down hills, through the ravines around trees and rocks etc.
I thought of the Lewis winch, but it sounds kind of like a pain it the butt unless it is stet up almost perfect and even then might get you!
Any ideas at all?

Ok, here's what I was looking for, Andy (err, that's right, ain't it) www.novajack.com They have special blocks that release when triggered by a mechanism that attaches to the winch line...thus allowing corners to be turned.... take note also of the nifty skidding cones. I couldn't remember the website, but finally found the brochure in my mess. http://www.novajack.com/en/0105.asp#

Ain't it though!!? Glad I found it.....If you're serious, lemme know, I could possibly find ya some cheaper rope....not sure if I can get kevlar....check out www.PSrope.com and see if they make DSComposite in 7/16th or 1/2...edit I did.... 7/16th is the smallest http://www.psrope.com/images/products/DSComposite112006.pdf

prolly those nifty release devices only work on 3/8th line.....

This is the Simpson winch....better than the other tool which is over $1200.....its about $500 now, just add a saw.....they suggest 3.5 cubes or less, that's fine, but I've run it on an 044.....

I looked at those as well, expensive for such a limited use IMO.
The mini, while not perfect for everything opens up more income potential. And I can always build a capstan to go on the mini if needed:D

My old price list from about 4 yrs ago says:

corner block $64.50
auto release $17
kevalr rope 1.35 foot
3/8th rope 0.35 a foot
skidding cone $160.00 pricey, but that's a danged nice thing to have.....I reckon shipping might be a bit, since it's kinda big.

Nice stuff, but maybe kinda light duty for good sized logs.

I dunno Dave, looks like there might have been a litle more room on that trailer. Might be able to get one more on there:O

Yeah the weather for Wensday has taken a turn for sure!!

Andy I'm happy for you man. A mini is a awesome machine.8)

Thanks Justin, but don't be happy yet, you don't have to live with my wife:\:

Like I said, I think this will open up a lot of posibilities for me! And al for less than I could buy a used quad:?

I am going to have to build a tooth bar, but that should do me for a while.

Way more better than a quad imo. And I had/sold a sportsman 500 before my mini. Mini is a machine quad is a toy

Oh yah, I'm married to. Lol

nice load dave!
andy, my wife had her doubts but now sees the value. if that doesnt work out for you let me know, id like to try out the thomas i think, at least the tired mini. and i could prolly afford it:D

Ha my wife still calls it the lazy mans wheelbarrow. Why lift anything I say? When you have a mini that can do it for you.:D

yup, i use it to pack fire wood to the back porch even, my wheelbarrows getting lonely!
