Gosh Andy... Your neck of the woods looks like my lower neck of the woods.. I feel for ya brother.. There are places I won't go till certain times of the year.. Some nice solid hardwood on the trailer though.. I know it is not as much as you would like... But man that's solid. At least you can get to it and mostly get out. The come alongs come with us everywhere up here as I know we will eventually need them to get the truck out (Rob insists on them). Now add at least a 20 degree slope to your dilemma and you have where I am.. Then add hollow wood...
That mini has helped you have to admit though. Now if you can get a good saw man ;)

Well Stephan, this was the worksite today:

Looks like ya dropped that sucka right where ya needed it Andy... Sorry you had the other troubles :( I am worried about you working it alone. I gave up on that just for safety sake. But no matter how you disagree with the way a guy might be in his work ethic, its still better to have company at the site ;)

Yeah, the tree dropped fine, all things considered!

And yes, I had a creepy feeling from the time I left until I got home. I didn't like it at all! Being out in that open area like that I was always looking around. A very "uncomfortable feeling" the entire time! Even when things were going wrong it didn't "feel right". I don't know how to describe it, it was just an erry feeling the whole time. Like I shouldn't be there or something!!
I don't mind doing small jobs close to home alone, but I am really having reservations about going out there alone again!!

Had some down time today, warm and to wet to do anything.
Pulled the Hyd. pump off to try the new one, I need to change on hose fitting, no biggie. Numbers on the pumps match, but the input shaft on the new one is .750" not .625" like the old one.
Again, no biggie. But I CAN NOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME figure out how the coupler on motor changes out!! I've never seen anything like it! Is it part of the crankshaft and non-replacable? The input shaft is about wore completly out on the old pump, so a swap is out of the question. Any ideas?

I guess I am the only one that has braved this far!!
Dave's mechanic hasn't returned my call, Thomas put me on hold, then asked for a call back number, and I can't find anything like it on Kohlers site!
I hope it's not intregal with the crank. It looks like it's two pieces with two roll pins 180deg holding it inside the crank, but I can't figure how it would come out!!

Man, Id be PISSED if I had to replace a hydro pump 2 weeks after id gotten the machine. Even if I could do it myself, it sounds difficult and expensive.

Well that comes with buying used equipment. Nothing wrong with used stuff at all. But you know that when buy it you are going to turn some wrenches.

Especially if you are used to having your gear operating correctly.

Pics will be up in a bit Brian, I took the best I could with the room.

Dave told me the pump was slow well before I bought it, the machine still runs fine. I do not HAVE to change it. He even boxed up and shipped me a replacement for free.
Great service. Nothing to be pissed about at all.

So, is that the old pump, the one you're replacing? What's the new one look like and what does the shaft look like that needs to go into it?

That is the coupler on the engine. The shaft on the pump has external cut splines that fit into that.
The seal you see is the crank seal on the motor.

That is the gas motor.

Can you get a small L hook behind that insert?

I can get a SMALL pick in, but not far, it feels like it has a raidius so I can't believe it was hobbed in the crank. But can't for the life of me think that small area around the outside would be strong enough to take the load.
Nor can I, much less anybody else I know, figure out how it comes out!
I have found out a small crane company used a design like this and it was machined into the crank. It wears, replace the crank.

Well then it looks like you need to find a pump with the proper size shaft to fit the motor. Trying to hook up a hydraulic pump with the wrong input shaft is like trying to put a 14" tire on a 15" rim, it ain't gonna happen.

That is a grand possiblity.

All the mowers I had were run by kohlers and although they were all the same motors, none of them interchanged. Different motor cases, crankshaft ends, you name it it was specific to the mower brand.

But the coupler is worn as well hence the want to change it. I don't really GAS about what size it is, just trying to make it right.
