I wonder how hot they are in the summer.. oldmill, if you have some time would you snap a pic of the inside? I'm curious to see if it's webbing suspended like a vertex or loaded with foam on your dome like the kask. I'd also like to see how they integrate the hearing protection. You euro guys get all the fancy stuff first..:what:

I have had success joining thin cord to webbing by tying a water knot in the webbing and then following through the water knot one time with the thin cord. I cant find an example just now but it all cinches down tight as can be and if you thread it right gives a nice low abrasion exit angle.

However adding the webbing knot might increase the bulk beyond your 'ultralight' tolerance. It does make it cheaper and more customizable than a sewn loop though.

The cradle inside is a mixture of both and you can see it on the website, I'll attach a link. How it sits on the head is difficult to describe and not as you would think after looking at the photos.
Because the helmet itself is big enough to accomodate the muffs, the ventilation is unrivalled.
The video shows how the muffs move.
The helmet looks huge but actually measures smaller than a Petzl including muffs. I know 'cos I measured.

There is a lot about the Protos I like. I worked my way through the ordering process and it looks like the helmet with chinstrap and visor and ear muffs is

221.76 Euro equals
295.16 US Dollar

Basically, $300 as I figured it. That was without any shipping. We'll have to see who becomes a distributor here, I guess.

Thank you very much for writing. Good news, bad news. We will carry the Pfanner helmet as soon as it passes the ANSI testing for the US. We have already placed our order.

Pfanner told me last week that it would probably be 2013 until the helmet is cleared for release to the US, unfortunately. We will be carrying all colors.

You may check out some of the European sites if you are in a hurry. Helmet will be available in Europe in/around March.

300 bucks??? They can keep it.

In Britain it's double the price of a Petzl or Stein but it's safety features are much higher and it's shelf life is almost double so on balance, it works out about the same.
I realise you still have to fork out the money on day one though.

Buy the Sena's. Picked up a set of 2 for $260. Cannt even begin to explain how much nicer they make the day. They are one of those things that if they got stolen I would order more the next day....

I've been itching to get these Xtremes. I use an older version with my crane operator, they have huge belt packs. The new ones shown are all in one. Crystal clear, and super durable. I've got him coming out friday, and I'm sure it'll push me closer to making the order.

Those look nice B but $1300 for a pair?? Ive had the Senas for about a year and they have been flawless. I listen to music from my phone when Im on auto pilot and groundie can push a button and cut into the music and talk, you can answer your phone with them and people can even understand you in the noisy work envoirement due to noise cancelation. Just put the speakers in your ear protection and roll. I bought another set that is mounted on a headband for my crane op as he doesnt like wearing helmets. They are so cheap and work great.

Here's a nice tool box set dad and bro picked up today for $450. Pretty sweet deal from a mechanic friend of ours. Has a bunch of tools as well, various socket and wrench sets, a tap and dye set, etc etc.
