I plan to order new boots tommorow , yes they will be WESCO's .... I've worn out several pair of Redwings and plan to step UP ! I've been working kinda boot challenged for a while , every time I had the money ... no stock . Now I am ready to buy , if there out of stock I will order and wait them out ! Or go custom ! I am really excited about this purchase ...

The best thing about the Wescos is they can be rebuilt.

The worst thing is they make you feel like you're on walkabout on Jupiter, weightwise.

I can't comment on wesco's, but the 3 pair of Redwings I had sucked ass. Fell apart super quick, and became really uncomfortable fast.

I'm in Asolo's now, love 'em, but they aren't a loggers boot one bit.

I learned alot about leather when I met my wife who rides horses.
You can buy a saddle for 100 dollars, or like my wife, spend close to 6 grand on one.

It is all in the leather and the craftsmanship.
With boots, Redwings use what is called belly leather. If you look closely at say, harness leather. you will actually see the pores. They will be tightly packed and almost invisible.
With redwings, you will see these great big pores.

All this means is that the leather that redwing uses stretches easily.

Take a good pair of Danners, westco, white, etc. and you will see the difference in the leather.

I agree with Frans. Cheaper boots are more comfortable out of the box because of the softer leather but soon they over stretch and then just wear out. My last three pairs of boots have been Wescos and they've all been great. Someitmes they can be a little uncomfortable at first but when you get them worn in they are great. Some guys tie new leather boots lose for comfort but I am a firm believer in tying them tight. I think they form better that way. I also love the 16" rise. The weight has never bothered me, maybe I'm more manly than Butch. Although with a name like that...

I wear Redwings. They are the best boot I've been able to buy that fit my sasquatch feet. I'm sure that Wesco's or Whites would be great, but both of them were a bit waffley when I tried to pin them down on being able to custom make a shoe for me. I get good wear from the Redwings. A couple years at least. Maybe they aren't as good, but they are also a third of the price (and comfortable).

If you like Redwings, it's a pretty safe bet you'll LOVE Wescos. At the very least they last 2 to 3 times as long... hence the price.

Well, they've got to decide whether or not they can make a sasquatch boot or not. I hope they can make an EEEEE shoe.

Redwing sizes don't match up to normal shoe sizes. Redwing D width is about a normal B, and Redwing EE width is about a normal D width. The fact that they play games with their sizing, and the absolutely garbage pair of overpriced boots I got there the last time have convinced me I'd be better off buying Chinese boots from Wally World than shopping at Red Wing again.

I wear an H Redwing. Which might be an EEEE. I have a pair of NB Hikers that are EEEE, but they could be wider. My Rocky Snow boots are a 13W, but have to get stretched a little to fit. Somedays I'd like to chop my little toes off.:|:

Shep , from what I've seen in their sales literature those guys in Scapoose oughta be able to fit your feet , they say it's about acurate measurements ....

Whites, if you go to their store, will carve a foot out of wood (or something) that is the exact shape of your foot. Then they build the boot from that. Keep the foot in the factory so you will always get the perfect boot. If your foot changes then they redo it.

I have had two pairs of Danners, I still have one pair, resoled twice, leather is perfect and still waterproof. Well worth the 300 bucks I paid more than 10 years ago. I wrote the company a letter a few years ago and they printed my compliments in their catalogue. :D

That's almost weird and kinky - I love it!

It should be noted that the length of time a boot lasts has a lot to do with how heavy the person in the boot is. I get two to three years out of my Wescos and weigh around 225.
