How'd it go today?

The ninebark is very dense; even though a piece 3 or 4 inches in diameter is a big one, it is a fine long-lasting fuel... much like burning coal :).

As Sean notes, DF limb wood is very dense as well, tight growth rings that burn hot and longer than most similar sized splits of trunk.

Your're giving it too much air. Sometimes I struggle to get hedge to burn just because I don't give it enough air. Just a little too much, and I get thermal runaway where the hotter it burns, the stronger the draft, and the dense coals radiate a lot of heat.

With the air leaks my stove has, I adjust how I setup the fire, and keep a bottle of water handy (an old alcohol or peroxide bottle to squirt it from) to cool the coals if it gets too hot. It's near impossible to put a "fire" out completely even with a half gallon or so of water, though that will knock it down to hardly a smolder for 5min.

Gila? I know they can have pink, yellow, or orange patterns - not sure they get that big but hey… East coast doesn’t harbor such fauna

What critter is that? Native??
“We've spotted this curious critter hanging out in our yard these last few weeks. Last Friday I finally got some photos and video of it and sent a photo to our friend Angela Johnson to help us identify what it is. We were pretty excited to find out we had a female Long-nosed California Leopard lizard hanging out in our yard until we read they kill Desert Iguanas to eat their tails! 😳😲😱 We won't chase her off unless we start seeing dead iguana missing tails in our yard. I wish I could figure out what else she might eat, besides iguana tails. Lets see if I can convert her to a vegetarian diet. “

I think I may have landed my dream customer. She is slightly eccentric, yard full of mature trees, many young and ornamental trees, fruit trees, evergreens.

I get a call from her who got my name from a guy who retired. The call was a basswood removal 90+’er that was split badly and threatening power lines, I can’t do anything because they are well within minimum approach. So I have her call the utility and they are coming out to do a make safe. I stuck a chain and binder around the trunk hoping the tree would last through the storms today and tonight, but shits been pretty wild here in Wisco today. Just in talking to her I end up selling another several grand in work as well as “just go down to the nursery and pick out six trees you like”. I ask “do you have a budget for the trees?” She says “no just make them good ones”. Two tree form redbuds, a columnar purple beech, multi stem copper beech, white star tree form magnolia, and a yellow lace leaf Japanese maple with a really cool pagoda dogwood like form.

If she weren’t 25 years older I might be in love. Lol

I had my dog with and initially had him leashed. She is a dog lover and said he could run around free on the property. So D is a happy dog running and sniffing around. We go on walking the property and talking trees then we hear SPLASH splash splash then the sound of what could only have been caused by Dietrich doing a cannon ball or possibly a triple gainer into the pond. At this point I look at her and say this is all your fault. We laugh and I sell even more tree work. It was almost dream like working this estimate.

Made lemonade out of significant rain, burning. The holly and hazelnut choked first behind the landscaping is now more open allowing more view into the forest. Idk if they use their telescope or just looking. They want it opened up.
