Same here so I'm burning more than I ever have. We have a fairly real/solid winter going so far

Stubborn large rounds I “noodle” some cuts into and then flop and chop.

I have a hyd splitter borrowed now for stubborn liftables.

Tree hack rant : too heavy to move by hand much, too big to burn, too big to bucket, too small to forklift.

Ended up using the loader for shade

Straight grained splittable pieces salvaged from curves and knotty pieces. Those cut small
Enught to burn as is for cheaper camping wood. That being said, it’s pine, so mostly likely all camping wood. Will probably be some rare easy splitting. Some of it popped pretty hard while cutting and after while sharpening. Interesting. Pockets of sap are so hard you think you rocked your chain. I prefer “touch it once”. Cut it firewood size straight out of the tree into the dump trailer instead of this hump it 1,000 times. Oh, also, how bout we cut our logs 90° instead of 45°?

Firewood is profitable with a processor. It is also profitable with a regular splitter if you don’t take in account your time. If you do it’s something like $11 an hour probably less. Firewood production costs time not so much money. It is a good way to dispose of a byproduct you already got paid to remove. I did most of my firewood production during mud season and posted roads just for something to do. But I found the hassle of filling orders more time consuming than it was worth. Using IBC baskets helped make it a tiny bit more profitable but you need a machine so it has a cost to the bottom line.

I can cut and split 1 rick per hour with a hydraulic splitter from TSC. Then, it's best to try to get people to pick up. Some don't care to measure, if they have a full bed, that's enough for them, or I can stack or count a pile ahead of time.

Started a big job Monday. All was going well until about 12:45, as we were returning from dumping the first load. I was turning in (narrow driveway), and so I had to swing wide so the trailer wouldn’t take out the mailbox and a light pole. Just as I entered the driveway, another guy took out the mailbox…and plowed into my truck. He said he didn’t think I was turning. I guess that right hand turn signal was just for giggles.

Worked Tuesday out of my F-250, but I’ve gotten spoiled to the Ram. We finished the job up Thursday, and I took off yesterday to get another work truck. Spent most of today swapping stuff over.

Of course mistakes happen and we let our guard down, but things like this is why I watch people in the mirror to make sure they are paying attention or not doing something stupid like think you are pulling over to let them by.

I was watching him up until I made the swing. He was a good bit behind me. I’d turned my turn signal on nearly a quarter mile before the turn, while he was a couple hundred yards back. It appeared he was braking to give me time/apace. I think it was either inattention or he thought he could squeeze past before I made the turn.

Nearly same scenario in 2019 while turning in to McDonalds in a nearby town. Young guy wasn’t paying attention. Several folks stepped forward and said they saw the whole thing.
