How'd it go today?

How'd it go today? well, it went really good, till the big bang from the snapon guys mirror, and my face full of glass...

also, its $686 for the passenger side mirror on those trucks, and $47 for mini cobra pliers which I just had to buy as a souvenir

feel free to talk as much sh*t as you want, I was watching the car next to be because they were being a little stupid, and I ended up being the stupid one today, mistakes were made, he still got the better end of the deal since his mirror was still usable, about 2/3rds of mine imbedded itself in my upper body, other third is now going to scratch me for as long as I own the truck because theres no way its all coming out of the seat, I really need a vacation, like really need one

How do you like the Knipex. Do you EDC them?
I wouldn't say I EDC knipex on purpose, but more often than not I find myself putting them in my pocket because I use them so often, I quit carrying anything besides phone, wallet and keys since I'm usually around stuff with tools and don't like extra weight in my pockets, but this is one exception I make, the pliers wrench comes before my pocket knife or multi tool 100% of the time, I'm sure the mini cobra's will replace those for a carry tool, but we will see

that being said, I have the pliers wrench that I got a year ago and I use them almost every day, quite often end up in my pocket at work and get used all day, absolutely fantastic tool to have around, I will probably end up with the mini cobra's in my pocket for pulling stubborn R clips, electrical connectors, etc, save my fingers where I can, they are about an inch shorter than a dollar bill so they won't be any good for much serious work, I can pick a quarter up by the lip on the edge with them tho

so far, overall knipex opinion? I would never buy another brand of pliers as long as I can afford knipex, the quality is absolutely incredible compared to anything else, dare I say it, better than any other tool truck brand, but the price reflects that, my cobra pliers were $47 and my pliers wrench was like $75, I've put a cheater pipe over the back handle on the pliers wrench and absolutely reefed on them and I didn't break them, also don't need to hold both handles once you put a little pressure on them, very handy design although they take more space than a wrench, if I really have to torque on a small bolt I don't grab anything else, they will NOT strip a bolt head, especially great on aluminum hydraulic fittings

heres how good the pliers wrench is

I went from an absolute hater of pliers to using those instead of anything else where possible, you're looking at a year of absolute abuse, cheater pipes, box end wrenches to extend them, using them for things you shouldn't ever use pliers for, I've been doing my best to break them, and they look brand new, most all knipex pliers are designed to self close when you use them the right way, but I've used the pliers wrench backwards countless times and you can still clamp down on the handles hard enough to where you just about cannot push or pull hard enough to make them slip, its honestly mindblowing the first time you use them

you can feel the quality of the steel, its very hard but has a little flex so you don't shatter them, the cobra pliers have wicked sharp jaws that will cut their own grooves into pipe or rounded bolts fairly easy

you can get the 10" pliers wrench and 10" cobra pliers combo for around $90 on amazon right now, buy it, you won't be disappointed

they also make a mini plier wrench

Anaplasmosis is a lot worse than Lyme, that's for sure. I thought I would get to spend some time in the garage organizing my electrical Packouts to increase connector density and diversity. Nope. I have gotten a little sleep since starting the doxy, but energy remains at zero percent.
I got a flat on the car last night, so I'm now running on one tire with wire sticking out, so basically stranded. It made it the six miles home, I'm not pushing it any further. Dealing with a "checks in the mail" with one client. If he doesn't cough it up this week, that's going to be disastrous.
I've watched enough YouTube to qualify for a degree in Australian wildlife, but I'd settle for my own wombat. I think I might try eating something later.

Speaking of Knipex:
An older arborist from down in Maryland who I climbed for years ago - a bit of a Luddite (slow to accept cell phone, computer, etc) came to see my art exhibit and said he was online watching this arborist out West speaking about cabling and bracing of trees. He then said, "In the video he stopped in the middle of a sentence and said 'My good friend Pat Wisniewski told me about Knipex pliers years ago' just like that!"
I confirmed that he was watching a Nick Araya video.

Something up with my left eye - woke two mornings ago with a black lacy veil over the center of my field of vision, and thousands of what look like raindrops on a window spread all over the visual field. Makes reading and fine detail work a pain after a while as it is tiring while trying to 'overlook' it.

I saw the ophthalmologist that morning, who said no retinal detachment, holes, or tearing, just vitreous humor pulling away from the retina, but then said, "not uncommon in the aged" (ouch! Hey, I am still immature, doesn't that count for something?!?).
If it doesn't resolve to get my visual acuity back I may have to undergo a vitrectomy.

I see the retinal specialist on Wednesday. This getting old is a pita.

I had that a year or two ago, vitreous detachment, yup it's a scourge for old folk, pita but resolved itself after not too long. Yeah who knew this getting old chit.

Dave,
Do you have any, or is there anyone who can get you some sort of electrolyte mix like LMNT. Start by mixing in water, but half strength to begin.
If you haven't been able to eat, a few sips of that at a time can help get you back in balance, especially as the doxy is going to tear up your good gut biome as it attacks the baddies.
If and when you try to eat, start with bland, easily-digested starches, plain bread (gf), plain potato, plain crackers. Avoid fats, vegetables, and meats until you can keep simple starch/carbs down.
Cory is correct, - usually the doxy should make a big difference in as little as 24 to 48 hours.

Yes, but better than not getting old.

Karen attended a lecture and botany field walk with this researcher today up at Longwood Gardens, and bought his book for me.
She mentioned my years in arboriculture and since he had spoken at length about birds and oaks she also mentioned that I re-nested raptors,
so he included trees and birds in the inscription.

I managed to get out of bed this afternoon exactly as a monsoon rain hit. Eventually it stopped, and I managed to get a better tire mounted on the car and a jug of fuel in the furnace for hot water. Tomorrow I go bill collecting. I'm hungry and broke. And tired and cranky.
