How'd it go today?

Going well over all.

Waiting to hear about my brother in Chicago scheduling carpal tunnel release surgery. He lives with and takes care of my elderly mom, just turned 84, who hasn't recovered from 2 falls with broken bones. She barely walks.

She will be coming to stay with me/ us for at least a while.

It's a good time to have a very local service area allowing me to pop back home every few hours.

It will be a big change up.

We've been doing video call physical therapy twice daily nearly every day of 2025. She will do better with in-person therapy and massage therapy when she's here. Her muscles are very tight.

My brother dies what he can but is struggling to do what he's doing as he has his own mental health and physical health issues.

When I was in Chicago last, in January, he told me he thinks he may be autistic. It would explain some parts of him.

that 5.7 is a great engine, last forever and take some abuse without a care in the world!

IMO, possibly the best gasser to compare to a diesel in a truck, got a buddy with 410K on his, never lets it warm up or cool down, pretty sure its out of time, doesn't run great but it still makes him money every day!

not letting his truck idle and cool down is a pet peeve of mine, can't wait for him to get another diesel and ask me "why'd my turbo lock up day 1?" but whatever, he will learn

Did a large Norway maple lead that was splitting and over the rectory at my girls school. What a shit show! I coned off an area with caution tape last night, cars parked there and tape run over. I’ve been texting with the finance committee and confirmed last night and this morning so they could let the office at the school know when we are coming, everyone was clueless. Anyway the damn thing is down and gone.

I had one a while back, actually the very job I did the original Giant demo on, we bid the job about 2 weeks before starting it, told the HOA president we needed something in writing to every single resident of the entire neighborhood that we would be blocking 3 of their parkinglots with a crane and multiple trucks, we were very specific about this and the fact EVERY care was to be out of the way before we show up

of course, only 2 or 3 actually got moved, so we blocked them in, they had their warning weeks in advance

half the day goes by, time to set the crane back up for the last 4 trees, ladys car is directly where we gotta put the crane, took sending the HOA lady over 3 times to get it moved and the resident come out screaming at me, which got the typical "IDGAF get out of my face" response and back to work, I got a job to do

crane starts backing into his spot (about 150ft straight back mind you, we got time) and this guy pulls in and sits straight behind the crane, I ask him to move and mentioned "this moron at the last building here got really pissy despite being told multiple times to move her car", and as I'm walking away she gets in his car with him (which hasn't been moved yet mind you, crane waiting at this point)

had another one, guy unrelated to the job at all, and unexpected, pulls into my coned off dropzone right as I finish cutting a limb, which I can barely hang onto, I scream down to the dude to get the F*CK out of my drop zone, he says "you can wait"

yeah, I almost went to jail that day, totally threw that ~80lb limb straight at his brand new white ram pickup, he left with no words said (no, I didn't hit the truck, wish I did but that wouldn't have been any better)

I think the moral of the story is, don't F*ck with the tree guys, and my cones aren't for you to go around, for your safety, I put those there so you don't die, yet people are so stupid that they will ignore you saying that, then sue you for getting hurt

I can usually stay pretty calm with the cars being parked in my way depending on the job and notifications. I stay polite until they are impolite and if they get demanding I then see fit to be not nice.

same here, lot of people just start off screaming here, at which point I don't hold back anything coming out of my mouth, they tend to shut up with a quickness, some call the cops instead which is fine

Random fact:

J I Rodale, founded of the Rodale Institute, proclaimed on the Dick Cavett Show that he would live to 100 years old. Then immediately dropped dead on stage at 72. Oops.
