How'd it go today?

That's when you're a dumb shit and rather than close the canopy's fold-down tool box when working in tight areas for safety, which repeatedly occurred to him, you smash your face on the steel toolbox, opening up a gash, going to hospital, and take money out of Dahlia's college fund.

Don't you have insurance for shit like that?

Yes. I am insured.

Workers comp
General liability
Unemployment insurance
Commercial auto
Bonded

I would much rather have paid the $700 bill, but that would be illegal.

My rates will probably go up for 1-3 years.

My current quarterly workers comp bill is $1500. $4.50 ish per man-hour.

I had a clean record for 10 years.
If my rates go up 10% (I'll lose my clean track record discount), maybe only $600/year increase.

I apologise for the whining and birching.

Oh, to work with competent people. What a treat it would be.

I got in an argument with my ex wife about bending over and being ______ by our co-op/ private school accountant who couldn't do basic record keeping, the main part of the job.
First, they said we were overdue, pay $1500.
I told her I wasn't going to pay it without proof.

She wanted to just pay it. I say that's stupid. She spent hours fixing his errors. Effectively saved about $100/ hour of working.

Oops, only $800 overdue. I didn't believe it either, as the records are still messy, but she was just going to roll over and pay $400, as I knew I owed $400 ( no problem to pay, just waiting for them to get their screwed up accounting fixed, and have an accurate balance.

He threatened that it would go to Collections.

Oh, guess what, I was right, but I'm an Ahole for wanting receipts and invoices (standard business practices). Our Tuition dollars pay the co-op school treasurer (parent getting Tuition waiver for working), so effectively, he works for me, her, and Dahlia, just like he works for every other parent. The whole Board are effectively the employees of the school, in the same way Customers are my bosses.

Again, a matter of people's willing to be lazy and not do their jobs, at others' expense.

I could have just gotten the KY and my check book. I own a business. I must be made of money.

My tolerance for stupidity is so low. My own issue.

Wow, I shall never bitch about insurance again, ever.

Something like that would have cost me nothing.
No higher rate, nothing.

This is a somewhat socialist country, so insurance companies can't just thread the poor working man under foot.

Something completely different.
The local State Forest put a 3 year logging contract out .
Not on a bid open to everybody, but one that is sent out to a select few companies with a good record and no foreign workers being underpaid.
We have Richard ( South African) but since he owns half the company we can't very well under pay him.

Man, this is like playing poker with some big stakes.
Bid too high, we don't get it.
Bid too low, we get it, but don't make any money.

Now I just have to wait and see what happens.
I've bid what I think is a decent price, if we get it we'll have plenty of logging the next 3 winters.
Close to home, too.

I plan to retire when they drag me out of the woods feet first, Burnham.
Of course there is a good chance that the leukemia will decide for me.

I really like working and also have a fear of ending like my dad.
He stopped working, didn't much have anything to replace it with and disappeared down a bottle.
Being married to my mom had a lot to do with that, of couse.

I'd imagine she could drive any man to drink.

So as long as I can keep up with the two youngsters on a logging job, I don't plan to stop.
Probably still got it in me to teach a couple of apprentices more.

Thanks Peter.

People make things into way to big of a deal/ overcomplicated stuff.

I've been sleeping poorly lately partially because of my cold and Dahlia's cold this last week. Takes my tolerance for stupid way down, not starting from a very high place.

In the Tree House, I admire the smarts, wisdom, experience, cleverness, ingenuity, selflessness, willingness to debate- even willingness to say that there might BS, as Stig told me he though I might be shoveling some recently. Didn't hurt my feeling for him to say he though I was wrong. Just differing people.

The TH keep me stimulates and (sorta) sane. It rocks. I should pay my therapy bill again (donate) before lunch is over. In a way, it's just paying Tuition for my education about treework and the world, plus tickets to the comedy show, so to speak.

I'd love to work-vacation around the world, working some of the Housers. Kick ass and take names.

Parenting prevents this. You know.

+1 Sean. Again, best wishes.
Thanks, Mick!!
I've swapped out the knives, only 2, 4 new ones came with the chipper. I'm thinking of moving the fuel tank and possibly making a platform and ramp for the stump grinder where the fuel tank is.....

Lots going on. Congrats Peter, looks like a score.

Fingers crossed for your big contract Stig, you deserve it.

Sean, don't know what to say man. Hold the line though, stupidity shouldn't be tolerated.

Had one of todays chimney jobs sniped off by the competition. Shady sods never even went on the roof. So atleast when I showed up I could educate the customer about a clean cap and the importance of going up top. Customer wasn't at fault, they had scheduled with me this morning but got a text yesterday saying the chimney could be done today. They hadn't even clued in that it wasn't by the company that they had originally booked with. They must be on a customer list or something from previous cleanings of this 'other' company.

I could gas really, sun is shining and it's a nice day to be off early. I'm starting to get a little burned out on the chimneys anyways. I could use a afternoon like this off. 8)

I can't imagine you falling into a bottle, not with that example before you Stig.

I'm sure the future apprentices will be the lucky ones.

Forgive my impudence in asking about retirement...I'm just enjoying myself so much in mine, I wish the same pleasure for my friends.
