How'd it go today?

I wanna come back as a breeding bull, hang out, eat some stuff, love up on all the cows, and then one day bolt to the head and steaks. Not a bad life lol

Top it they asked? No says I. Probably already dead from beetle attack and topping not only bad for the tree, but the turpine
Released from topping will probably draw the beetles in to finish the job.
So today, we start dismantle after someone else topped it.
All stripped and chipped today. Upper topping at 100 feet. Tomorrow, negative blocking and gin pole now that the codoms are stropped in two places. Crane on Friday for the larger wood before we go crane out a nasty cracked and dead oak.

Yep.
Stephen has ( quite unwillingly, I assume) become king of the nasties here in the House.

And he deals with them in splendid fashion.

Big nasty tree Stephen.

Had my own baby one today - dead & decayed birch. I have had a run of big damaged tree recently & this is the one that caused me the most stress & even fear at some points. Funny how it works sometimes

You'd be good in Yankee Stadium, beer vendor in the crowd...the same "Hey, Up calves, hup, hup, hey, calves, get up there, get up there, hoeee" works just like: Beer here! Hey, beer. Beer here! I got your Bud Light heah" 8)

Today was bid day. I typically take one weekday to run bids all day, and sometimes a few on the weekends too. It's nice having a crew that doesn't mind working four day weeks. It's a seller's market here in Florida; I'm booked solid with work until the end of December. This year is the busiest we've ever been heading into winter.

Usually I think, "ya, another 'pretty tall' dead tree removal bid.

IMG_20171019_122848430_HDR.jpg

Two dead Grand fir. One is significantly taller, and single trunk/ pretty straight. The other one, Doctor Suess and two tops.

In a forest of tall trees, it's hard to gauge size. These things hardly taper, 34-36" dbh.

My guess is the secondary tops are 12"+, and curly, as best I can tell. Right near the Sound on the uphill side of the road, not waterfront. Luckily, the big one decidedly leans toward the neighbor's huge shop, housing his fancy boat. The other one, toward the 1 neighborhood access road, and primaries. Not many people live down here, so electrical repair is low priority after a storm. The homeowner doesn't want to be "that guy" with dead trees endangering people/ property/ access/ utilities (all wells for water supply, too).

Several years of drought and age .

Damn Pete, that is seriously ugly. I had to use the basket on the crane today after two picks and some binding of the trunk and a branch union. Nasty bugger. Don't know if Mike got and pics.

Nail on the head Stig. Hate these dead buggers.
Some fodder from yesterday after rigging some logs off so the crane handled the last 4 picks over an electric box and a drop off. Used the crane to load them onto and into trailers and went to the next nasty. Levi in the pics for reference.

Put a new power plant on my little stump grinder this weekend.

Also executed a controlled burn on about 40 acres of mixed pine. Used a pro crew with our guys as overwatch. Really excited to see how the block responds.

I went to look at this truck this morning. It's 89, 7.3 idi, 2wd. It's old but has been looked after it seems. 180,000 km. I'm going back tomorrow, but with a veteran diesel Mechanic, who's all too familiar with ford's of this era. If I get it, it'll be with a view to putting a dump box on it. I don't need it right now, but I like it. And it's so hard to get a used dually that isn't beat up. Everything feels tight on this one, and the inside is pristine. Same engine as is in my current truck. The 7.3 powerstroke would a little more preferable, but hard to come by one with low K. I wouldn't go near that 6.0, or 6.4 even. These old trucks can be fixed at least....without a computer or the latest software.

Nice truck Reg! Won't pull fast, but she'll pull.

Here some picts from caning the remainder of the stem.
Better Stig?
Out camping with the scouts this weekend. Just came down to the beach from Fremont Peak. No Internet up there.
